Compatible with Nespresso® OriginalLine capsules.
We are Morning, and we are here to make your mornings better. It took us almost two years from that eureka moment, to where we are today. We’re proud to introduce the Morning Machine, the world’s first coffee capsule machine (for Nespresso OriginalLine capsules) that allows you to brew with intention.
Why the Morning Machine?
It’s all about the ritual. Home brewing has allowed us a moment of solitude to explore various coffee flavours, and the Morning Machine exists to elevate this experience.
How? Pairing a growing variety of high-quality coffee capsules with customisable recipes, the Morning Machine allows you to explore new flavours and roasts from the comfort of home, while enjoying it just how the roaster intended it.
Not forgetting the most integral part of all this: community. As we spend more time at home, the Morning Machine bridges the gap and connects both coffee roasters and home brewers, who are in pursuit of delicious coffees, from all over the world.
Key Features
The Morning Machine has a built-in scale that helps provide you with consistent brews. There are also two thermal sensors coupled with a PID (Proportional Integral Derivative) controllers, allowing you to set your brew temperature to highlight each coffee’s nuances. Lastly, you can control the brew pressure via the Intermittent Wave Brewing System (patent pending) to enhance your coffee’s mouthfeel and texture.
How do these 3 features affect my coffee?
There has been a shift in coffee brewing with the use of scales. Compared to simply relying on volumetric measurements (from a flow meter), scales provide you with accuracy, which leads to repeatability and room for experimentation. Instead of simply eyeballing the liquid espresso and crema, a scale provides weight-based brewing, where the output is instantly measured and displayed. This allows you to brew to more consistent-tasting cups of coffee.
Another factor that affects the coffee’s flavour is its brew temperature. According to the Specialty Coffee Association’s The Coffee Brewing Handbook by Ted Lingle, various coffee flavour components such as malic acids, citric acids and sucrose, each require different temperatures for a balanced cup. To prove this, we did a blind taste-test with seasoned coffee professional, Adryll Lin, from Mercanta Coffee Hunters.
We took the same coffee and brewed it with three varying temperatures on the Morning Machine.
After revealing to Adryll that he was drinking the same coffee brewed in different temperatures, he was pleasantly surprised that his chosen cup, Cup C, was the one brewed with the lowest temperature, as he felt that it was the one that had the most balanced flavours. Hotter coffee does not always equate to better coffee; and while coffee preference remains very subjective, exploring how temperature can affect its flavours is just the tip of the iceberg.
Many coffee professionals debate the effect of pressure profiling on the cup. Some say that a slow ramp-up would even out the extraction process, while some prefer to lower the pressure at the end of the brew to mute out some of the bitter and astringent qualities of coffee.
The third key feature of the Morning Machine is the Intermittent Wave Brewing System, which is used to control pressure. This system affects the coffee’s Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and allows exploration of how pressure can affect your coffee’s taste.
One of the Morning Machine’s capabilities is the Bloom & Brew, which uses the Intermittent Wave Brewing System. In this process, the coffee is pre-wet, followed by a short pause, and then the brew finishes with a low pressure.
For the full breakdown of the process, coffee capsules were punctured with the lowest pressure setting, then the brewing was paused for 20 seconds. Then, the Morning Machine automatically kicked in to half the brew pressure capacity of the pump (about 10 bars) for the remainder of the brew, as it hit 25 grams of output for the coffee.
The result was a noticeably different and stronger cup of coffee. We tried the Bloom & Brew method across various capsules with different roasts (from light to dark), with consistent results in the increase in TDS—and that’s only the beginning.
While “IOT” (Internet of Things) devices have been trending, we did not want to just throw in a technology component for the sake of doing so. Going back to the ritual and the home brewer in mind, the Morning Machine is purposefully connected to allow you to get the most of your brewing and tasting experience.

Project Timeline
We are raising funds to move from the tooling stage of manufacturing to our first production run. Our Kickstarter backers get first dibs from our first production run, and the target timeframe for the full production run is on Q3 2020. We aim to deliver to our backers by Q4 2020 or by Q1 2021 latest.
We will be able to deliver the Coffee Discovery Boxes and the Coffee Explorer Packs by the holidays this 2020, and we are targeting to deliver the Morning Machine around the same time. This will depend on the verification tests we are currently conducting before we begin mass production. We are crossing our fingers for this best case scenario!
The Team and the Design Process
Leon Foo, 38, founded Singapore’s pioneering Specialty Coffee roaster, PPP Coffee in 2009. He runs the group’s cafe—Chye Seng Huat Hardware and Stellar-M, which imports coffee machines and equipment such as Synesso, Marco Beverage Systems and Baratza, in Singapore and Malaysia.
Andre Chanco, 34, co-founded Yardstick Coffee, a specialty coffee roaster based in the Philippines. Yardstick Coffee has been pushing the boundaries of coffee in the Philippines through various projects such as the National AeroPress Championships, La Marzocco’s True Artisan Cafe and is also the official local distributor for La Marzocco, ModBar and Rocket Espresso.
Their 20 years of combined experience in coffee equipment, coffee roasting and coffee retail has helped them to understand one thing: the home coffee drinker.
Good coffee from around the world gets more accessible every day. However, each roasted bean is unique and the current single-serve technology landscape could do better in bringing out the best flavours out of each cup.
It was because of this, and a wholehearted belief that convenience and quality can co-exist, that Leon and Andre founded MORNING—a coffee-tech company that’s changing the coffee brewing game.
We collaborated with STUCK, an award-winning innovation agency based in Singapore for the flagship machine’s industrial design. The initial phase was about investigating several options based on existing machines and home-appliance best practices. We then narrowed it down to a few choices that had a good balance of ergonomics and functionality.
Product Specs
The Morning Machine will also be available in 110V for relevant markets.
Shipping Info
Please refer to the table below for the list of countries that we are shipping to. If your country is not on the list, please get in touch with us, and we’ll see what we can do to get the Morning Machine to you.
For this Kickstarter campaign, we did not include the shipping/delivery costs upfront as the COVID-19 pandemic has made shipping costs higher than usual at this time of writing. We will collect your order details and shipping address at the end of the campaign, and your shipping fees will be charged via our Shopify-based website only when we are ready to ship out. The benefits of this are:
- You will enjoy savings on shipping costs as we consolidate all our orders per country.
- Given the COVID-19 situation, shipping fees are higher than usual at the moment, and we do not want backers to be locked into an overpriced shipping quote.
- We will continue to find ways and couriers to get the cheapest delivery costs available until we are about to ship.
- If we are able to find several options per country (*i.e. express shipping vs. normal shipping), backers will be able to to choose the desired shipping method.Y
- You may also add more items to you order such as coffee capsules that are available in our marketplace.
Please see below shipping estimates that we have collected so far as of 1st September 2020:
Please note that, just like any other Kickstarter project, some backers will be required to pay import fees/duties, as well as VAT or any other taxes related to importation. There may also be countries that are subject to higher shipping rates due to other reasons.
Warranty
All backers will receive a one-year global warranty.
Where applicable, we will repair or replace any defective parts or the whole machine at no additional cost. If key parts like the drip tray or the water tank are broken under regular usage, we will ship replacement parts for free during the warranty period.
Neither does the warranty policy apply to any issues with the appearance or damage to the exterior of the machine, nor does it cover any malfunctions or damages caused by misuse or improper voltage.
We will also be developing a series of How-To maintenance videos, which will allow the Morning Machine owners to keep their unit functioning at an optimal level for a long time.
