About Design Hive

Design Hive is a creative technology studio inviting learners of all ages to explore process art and emerging technologies in an inclusive, family-friendly environment. Pivoting Past the Pandemic

We officially opened our doors on March 1, 2020 with a fabulous launch party, but had to promptly close and issue refunds due to the Covid-19 pandemic and statewide shutdowns. We quickly pivoted and shifted our model to offer virtual workshops, parties, events, and DIY project kits, and were able to remain open on a part-time basis. Despite our growing community support as we navigated the ever changing nature of this pandemic, we have not been able to secure any PPP, economic injury/disaster loans, or any SBA backed loans because we are too new and do not have proof of income prior to the pandemic. 

Why We’re Raising $50,000

Although we’ve only been operating part time, we have seen the value and positive impact that we bring to our local and global communities. After a year of riding out the pandemic in our part-time model, we are ready to reopen full time and expand our operations to bring more hands-on creative STEAM to our communities.

What we’ll do with the money:

• Laptops and tablets
• Laser cutter
• 3D printer
• Create free online resources
• Free community workshops
• Improve product line
• Hire creative experts
• Build outdoor workshop in parking lot

Doesn’t This Already Exist?

The Answer. Yes and no. 

While STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) has been a buzzword in education for at least a decade, it is difficult to find anyone offering a creative and exploratory process-based approach to engaging in STEAM education. Parents seeking creative enrichment for themselves or their kids will find art studios or coding labs that teach isolated subjects, but there isn’t an easily accessible place that offers opportunities for the whole family to explore and learn at the intersection of art and technology.
