A reimagined all-in-one solution for protecting your face, ears, and neck from the cold.
Emberhurst introduces The Commuter, the winter face protector you needed but never existed… until now.
The Commuter might look deceivingly minimal, but it was meticulously designed from the ground up and packed with features to solve all the problems other products choose to ignore. The result is something you won’t leave your house without in the winter. Whether you’re braving the cold or walking your dog, it’s engineered to keep you toasty while looking trendy.
The Commuter is the obvious choice when it comes to winter accessories to keep you warm. Info graphic lovers rejoice – here’s a lovely table to show you why The Commuter outperforms every – single – winter face protector out there.
For those who have looked at the winter garment options out there for keeping your face and ears warm, here’s what you’re faced with (pun intended).
Your current options fall in one of two categories: fashion or function, never both.
*Ear Band is optional.
So many products out there claim that they don’t fog your glasses, however, if you’re someone who’s tried the options out there, chances are you know they still do. In order to prevent glasses from fogging up, your winter face garment must follow this formula.
The Commuter incorporates 4 design features to minimize your glasses from fogging up. Allow us to show you some of the hidden features.
Disclaimer: The Commuter works best with glasses / sunglasses with nose pads that have pad arms.
We’re about to hit you with some science facts so grab your notebook. Did you know that your face, neck, and ears are some of the areas on your body that are the most sensitive to temperature changes?
Cool and warm sensitivities are seen to vary widely by body part. The foot, lower leg and upper chest are much less sensitive than average; in comparison, the cheek, neck, back, and seat area are 2–3 times as sensitive to both cooling and warming stimuli. Every body part exhibits stronger sensitivity to cooling (1.3–1.6 times stronger) than to warming. Source
Humor us and close your eyes and picture someone placing their freezing hands around your forearm. Cold but tolerable right? Now imagine someone wrapping their freezing hands around your neck. You’d probably jump or at least flinch!
Your body’s reaction to feeling the cold is due to the high concentration of thermoreceptors in these areas on your body too. In addition, cold thermoreceptors are 3.5 times more common than heat thermoreceptors, making humans having a greater ability to detect the cold more than heat. Source
Next time, bundle up to cover these areas and feel the world of difference it makes. Science class dismissed.
Have you ever caught yourself hunched over, shoulders tense, walking straight into the frigid wind, trying to expose as little as possible to the winter elements? You try zipping your jacket all the way up, or popping your jacket collar, or even wrapping your scarf around your ears, but they are never enough.
With The Commuter, you can stand up straight, keep your chin up, and face winter head on. Oh and for all the single people out there ready to mingle, PRO TIP: Body language is one of the most influential factors to pay attention to when you want to appear more confident and attractive. So stop slouching!
The Commuter is optimal in temperatures 41°F / 5°C to -13°F / -25°C.
The Commuter goes on in four easy steps.
Every face is unique (unless you’re an identical twin), that’s why we offer The Commuter in 2 sizes with 5 points of adjustability so that you can get the best fit possible. Adjust once, and don’t have to adjust it again
What kind of fashion brand would we be without mentioning the materials we used to make The Commuter? We hand-picked every material used, paying attention to the breathability, how it feels, and even how it handles microbials.
Through the entire design process, we asked so many people this simple question:
“You wear a jacket to keep your body warm in the winter, but why don’t you wear something to cover your face?” We got a wide range of answers, such as “scarves are too bulky”, “neck gaiters fog my glasses”, “I’m too lazy to carry all this stuff”, just to name a few.
This gave us a nice long laundry list of challenges we needed to solve. Thanks to you, our winter warriors, we’ve been able to create a winter product that works. But don’t take our word for it; here’s what our prototype testers have to say:

Although we’ve built The Commuter using materials that are anti-microbial and odor resistant, like any garment, we still recommend that it be washed from time to time.

We offer a washbag as an add-on that protects and increases the longevity of your Commuter from the rough cycles of your washing machine, all while making it a no hassle process to wash your Commuter. The washbag doubles as a carrying bag as well!
Hi Indiegogo! We’re Garlon (left) and Aimee (right), the driving forces behind Emberhurst. We’re two Canadian friends passionate about turning ideas into action and sharing our solution to the cold with the world. Combined, we bring years of fashion and product design, supply chain know how, and business & finance experience to the table.
Emberhurst formally incorporated in 2019, but the idea dawned long before that. It all began in 2012, when our founder, Garlon, spent his early career walking 20 minutes to and from work from his downtown apartment. When the Canadian winter rolled in, he found himself dreading getting up for work because the walk just sucked because being cold sucks. He tried all sorts of winter garments, scarves, ear muffs, neck gaiters, but each of these products had major drawbacks. Over the years, he patiently waited for someone to invent something that was functional and still fashionable. 7 years later and still nothing! So he formed Emberhurst to take matters into his own hands. A year later Aimee was brought on to help build Emberhurst and turn The Commuter into a reality.
The fact that you’ve traveled this far down our Indiegogo page already means so much to us – So from the bottom of our hearts – Thank you. We also owe a great debt of gratitude to all those who have supported us along the way, our friends, families, beta testers, and mentors. This project would not have been possible without your support.
If you believe in what we do, or know someone who would benefit from having a Commuter, please share the campaign on social media and / or tell your friends, co-workers, and neighbors about us!
