Who We Are & What We Do

Hi everyone, my name is Ed. I am 29 years old, an avid traveller, and I started Biostays last year after a bad ski season in Japan. There was an alarming lack of snow due to the worsening climate crisis, and I knew then that I had to take action. Our species have kickstarted the planet’s 6th mass extinction event, so it is up to us to make change and push for a better, more sustainable future before the planet deteriorates beyond the point of return. 

The tourism industry as it is is causing far too much damage to the planet. It is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, habitat loss, and wildlife area depletion, to mention a few. Yet, it is also extremely vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. From melting snowcaps, coral bleaching, and flooding, we are ruining the very places we are trying to enjoy. We don’t need to cause this much destruction. It makes absolutely no sense. We are a team of fun, young, highly talented and ambitious individuals who are driven by the same vision, and together we are going to change the world. 

Our mission is to get people closer to nature and supporting the protection of the planet as they explore and enjoy all of its beauty and wonder. 

Our travel startup partners up with stunning and unique eco-hotels and experience providers all over the world, some of which you won’t be able to find on other travel websites. Each property and experience on our platform is Biostays certified, so you can book with confidence, knowing you are supporting environmentally conscious businesses. Plus, a portion of every single booking we fulfil will be donated to the Rainforest Trust, securing the protection of at least 2 acres of rainforest. This is a key part of what we do, because we want to continue giving back to the planet, and by protecting rapidly shrinking areas of wildlife around the world we can seriously help mitigate the effects of climate change.

Your Impact

We really need your help. We knew COVID-19 would put travelling on hold, but like everyone else, we had no idea just how long this would go on for. Through the pandemic, our amazing team has found and partnered with incredible hotels, developed the first iteration of our website, and are working to build a community of eco-warriors. We’ve been making amazing progress, but unfortunately are now faced with the possibility of halting all operations until tourism can resume. This is a climate emergency. Sitting idly by as our planet continues to deteriorate would be gut-wrenching for all of us, but we too are in crisis.

Your contribution will help us continue building our vision and dream. We want to keep adding breathtaking stays and experiences to our website, and we want them accessible on a seamless booking platform, ready for the moment travel opens back up. It is critical that we are operational when tourism resumes, so we can foster that reconnection between people and the planet, and prevent the destruction and chaos that will be inevitable if everyone starts rushing to book the same type of holidays as they did pre-pandemic. 

On top of the hit that tourism has taken due to COVID-19, we are also up against our larger competitors. These big travel websites have a huge amount of power and an agenda that isn’t necessarily mindful of the state of our planet. We want to get rid of greedy corporations who are only concerned with profit margins and pleasing shareholders. Biostays was built around environmental consciousness and conservation. It will always be at the heart of what we do. Any contribution will help us take over the industry and drive change for the betterment of the planet.

What We Need & What You Get

We are aiming to raise £50,000 through this campaign. It is important to us that as we build upon our vision, we are making an impact in the meantime, so with every £20 donated, we will be giving the Rainforest Trust enough to secure an acre of rainforest. Each backer will be offered a personalised digital outlining how many acres they have protected. 

Alternatively, through our perks, you can invest £100 or £500 and have the option to get this money back when you book with us. We already have some incredible stays on our site, and are continuing to add more (your support will help us do this faster!). Perks are valid for a year from date of purchase, but because of the covid19 pandemic, we will gladly extend the perks an additional year.

£100 Travel Voucher: By purchasing this perk, you will be offered your £100 investment back after your stay through our site, with a minimum £200 spend. This perk is available for hotel/property bookings only, not for tours/experience providers, with the exception of Beauty of Japan Tours & Awasi Experience.

£500 Travel Voucher: Take it a step further, and invest £500. You’ll be offered this money back after your stay through our site, with a minimum £2,000 spend. Additionally, you will be invited to consult personally with a Biostays team member to help ease your booking experience and sent an organic Biostays t-shirt!
