मेरी रामरानी (My RamRani)

a feature-length documentary film

…about a nation’s identity, a distorted history, a mother’s devotion, a daughter’s love, loss, grief, and traveling the world to find the way home.

After her sudden death, stories of a woman’s legacy in India are unraveled by her daughter, uncovering the root of her teachings, the spiritual source they shared, and the truth of human oneness across cultures, borders, and time. Click here to learn more about the film.

मेरी रामरानी My RamRani is a story about love.

Yvette “RamRani” Rosser & Baba Ram Dass, 2018

A story about devotion.
A story about travel.

A story about India and the heartbreak of losing my mom.

There will come a day when you lose your mother. You will not be ready. Whether your relationship was beautiful or tortured or both, as most are; whether she battles sickness or passes suddenly, I promise you, when it happens, you will not be ready. I wrote this film in the name of my mother, Yvette Claire “RamRani” Rosser, who taught me to live and feel out loud.

The film will continue her work to end Hinduphobia.

Our documentary honors RamRani’s devotion to the people of India and the world. She spent her life fighting the generational fallout of colonialism by working to decolonize the history of India and it’s people, fostering an understanding of shared humanity and universal oneness: the Eternal Law of Sanatana Dharma. Her work has helped thousands, from providing physical materials and resources to those living in extreme poverty to actively changing the colloquial and academic interpretation of Indian religion and culture, replacing barbaric assumptions with clarity and understanding. RamRani was a living, breathing reminder that there is no evil, only ignorance and knowledge will always set us free.
Your donation continues the impact of her legacy.

We humbly ask for your support.

मेरी रामरानी My RamRani’s professional production crew is made up of cinematographers, directors, animators, editors, musicians, artists, creatives, and conscious travelers from around the world. Hailing from diverse whereabouts, from New Mexico to Brooklyn, Barcelona, Greece, Chile, all the way to India itself, our film crew represents the vast global-mindedness needed to tell RamRani’s incredible story

Kiki Shakti is a filmmaker from Taos, NM, USA. Her unique perspective was fortified by an unorthodox upbringing, informing the inclusive worldview, wry, absurdist humor and the dry, sardonic wit that characterizes her work.

“My mother, Yvette Claire “RamRani” Rosser, raised me with two feet straddling the globe. She brought me up in a way that ensured a deeper grasp of Indian culture and Hinduism. I was taught to celebrate our differences and similarities with people from around the world: same-same, but different. My mother pushed me to have faith in the dreams of my authentic self, to follow my heart, open my mind and keep devotion to our shared divinity, all with a fervent curiosity for life, humanity, and the universe. The complex relationship between a mother and a daughter – and enduring the pain, love, and grief when they die –  is universal. By healing our own trauma, we heal that of our ancestors and find peace and justice for ourselves. First within us, out to our community, and onto the world.”

As we look to the future, we must work to heal brutality and violence. This is how we triumph over generational pain, how we find accountability, how we heal. This is how we stop the line of trauma, even if we can’t stop the grief or suffering that comes with the embodied human form.

Help me tell her story.

Your contribution will help us make this movie.
This movie works to fight global discrimination.

We can’t do it without you.

Right now, we are collecting donations for pre-production and initial filming. That means crew, camera, sound & lighting equipment, and travel. Facilitating the conversations with RamRani’s community will shape the narrative of the documentary.

Every contribution brings us one step closer to production.

Understanding and embracing each other’s cultural differences is how we end Xenophobic discrimination like Hinduphobia, Antisemitism, Islamophobia, and other cultural and religious bigotry worldwide.

You can help. No amount is too small.

We are weaving a patchwork (or plaid, perhaps?) blanket of funding to support an estimated total cost of $1,093,194. We know this is a big ask, but we’re not trying to do it all at once. Backing is expected from a variety of sources, and will be continually raising money through all stages of development, pre-production, production, post-production and distribution. So far, our director has invested over $30K of personal funds for development and pre-production.

That first ask, Stage I will fund Development and Pre-Production, covering the cost of living wages for all crew members, initial equipment rental & testing, the first wave of US-based interviews, and getting the word out about our message and funding appeal. Successful funding of this campaign will mark our milestone to move into production.

That stretch goal will catapult us into Stage II (Production), taking us to India for overseas interviews and beginning animation pre-production. Stage II will cover living wage salaries for a camera operator and sound mixer as additions to our crew, along with the purchase of official camera equipment. Rental costs are expected to surpass retail value of equipment once they exceed 50% of the equipment price, so at this point, filming best practice says to purchase equipment outright if possible.

Additional backing sources include subsequent crowdfunding campaigns, Angel donations, film grants, and Corporate Sponsorships. We are aligned with the Loving Awareness Foundation, our fiscal sponsor for donations over $15,000. We will apply for a variety of film grants and anticipate another crowdfunding push as we head into post-production.

We are both humbled and energized by the ocean of positive feedback already received about this film and its vision. We understand the mountain we are climbing, but Xenophobia is a global catastrophe that hurts people everywhere, and in honor of the memory of RamRani, Maharaj-ji, Ravi KhannaRam Dass, and all the brave souls who came before us, we must do our part to fight it.

We are determined to produce the मेरी रामरानी My RamRani Documentary film no matter what. We’ve opted for flexible funding for this campaign, so your contribution will help fund production even if we don’t meet our goal by the deadline. We plan to exhaust every possible funding opportunity, and this is your first chance to participate in the project.

Production Timeline

Development and pre-production began December ’21 shortly after RamRani’s death.
Production will begin January ’23 in India, continuing intermittently in the US and Europe through summer.
Post-production will follow, aiming for completion by the end of the year or early 2024.
Distribution of this inspiring and heartfelt film will start with the festival circuit, hopefully followed by theater premiers and streaming by 2025.

Go Dharmic is a humanitarian organization based on Neem Karoli Baba’s message to Love all, Feed all, Serve all. To date, Go Dharmic has developed 100 school libraries across India and works to alleviate suffering in all forms. Hanuman Dass founded Go Dharmic in 2011 and was strongly supported by RamRani throughout her life. In the name of RamRani’s memory and their shared mission, a percentage of the film proceeds will be donated to Go Dharmic’s latest project: A Seva Center in Kainchi Dham dedicated to serving the local community that RamRani knew as home.

Perks! Perks! Perks!

All incentives offered in exchange for contributions are items that held special significance to RamRani herself, many imported directly from India in support of the local economy where these items are made. We have rewards for every budget, from packets of marigold seeds to plant in your own garden, all the way to Executive Producer film credits and tickets to the world premier.

Every donation over $10 will receive our signature Hippie Trail film postcard and a public shout-out on our social media, thanking you for your contribution to this film and its mission

We are endlessly thankful for your support, whatever it may be.
