It’s a real straw made out of real ice alright! These straws don’t require any internal support structures, no plastic, no metal, no anything… just frozen water using our patent-pending molds!

Plastic sucks – literally! 1.6 straws are used per day in the US, while at least 4.4 billion straws are thrown away every year in the UK, and approximately 8 billion plastic straws are still decomposing on the world’s coastlines (you don’t want to know how much is actually in the ocean!). They’re cheap, take centuries (exactly) to decompose, release microplastics (why they taste bad), aren’t recyclable, and pollute our environments visually and biologically.

Stop eating plastic! Repeated studies show that people eat five grams of micro and nanoplastics every week (that’s about the weight of a credit card). So it’s not just the depths of the oceans we’re polluting but our gastrointestinal tract as well! Don’t be surprised if that plastic straw or plastic container you’re using to store or consume your food isn’t food-grade!  We made sure that our Ice Straw mold is food-grade which means it doesn’t release microplastic even when put under extreme cold/hot conditions.

“Is an Ice Straw better for the environment?”

Ultimately, 0 straws are better for the environment (because they wouldn’t require any means of producing energy or waste whatsoever). However, if we really must use a straw then why not produce just one product at one time (a mold) that’ll allow us to make enough straws for 2.6 lifetimes (100,000 usages)?

The Ice Guys are a group of innovators from across the US, Europe, and Asia. Our joint talents and networks in both product invention and production have allowed us to turn the once-only-imagined into a now-existing reality. Inventing the 100% ice straw was no easy feat.

We already have our working product and with your funding support will be able to go straight into the final stages of production and fulfillment preparation.

With your funding support, we’ll be able to go from the current “working product” to mass production, packaging, and then finally, fulfillment. With the insights of our teammates in the Asia region, we have anticipated various potential delays (not limited to COVID or Chinese New Year) and given ourselves a fair enough timeline to have all Ice Straw molds produced, packaged, shipped, and delivered by the end of May 2023.

Please note that the price of the item does not include additional duties and taxes that may incur during importation as per your country’s local laws of importation. To consume or not to consume, that is the question. 

Straws are great, we know; so are containers, bags, utensils, apparel, food, drink, etc., etc. With that said, just like everything we consume (not just the things we eat), there are health, environmental and financial transactions involved. The ultimate goal is not to make everything out of recyclable material, or even material that rots naturally in the ground. The ultimate goal isn’t even to increase the reusability cycle of a product so it’s reusable for a whole lifetime. The ultimate goal is to reduce and ultimately stop consuming and question what’s worth consuming at all. Let that sink in. The Ice Straw is no final straw. The final straw is a no straw. With a recommended shelf life of 100,000 ice straws per mold, the Ice Straw has the potential to substitute all home and small establishment straws for up to 3 lifetimes!

Risks and challenges

We already have a finished working prototype and our factory is ready for mass production. We also have an extensive network of manufacturers and other founders who have launched successful Kickstarters who we have consulted. We understand that sometimes production issues or logistical issues occur and have a number of alternative options to rely on in the case that we have to take option B for fulfilling everybody’s last ice straw.

Our food-grade silicone mold has a recommended shelf-life of 100,000 usages In other words, according to statistics that say we each use up to 38,000 straws in a lifetime, the Ice Straw is capable of substituting up to 3 lifetimes of straw usage! Sure, the straw eventually melts but at least you’ll be able to make a lifetime of them without polluting the environment! Plus with our food-grade material, you’ll be able to easily clean and reuse your silicone mold without the risk of developing mold or impossible-to-reach areas to clean like many other “reusable straws”.

Reusability and recyclability

Our recycled cardboard packaging will biodegrade and our ice straws will melt into water. Our silicone molds are food-grade safe and usable up to 100,000 times and even then are recyclable.
