Hi, I’m Raymond Philip, an Industrial  Designer. I first started to support a campaign here on IndieGoGo for an E-bike, The Mate X e-bike! As I went to get the bike I would say that it was a pretty exciting and ongoing experience. In the wait, I tried to buy aftermarket parts to better the performance and style of the bike. I stumbled into this idea when I changed my stock handlebar and upgraded it to a BMX handlebar. Performance-wise it was a very good upgrade, the control, stability, comfort and feel for the riding experience. It was awesome! The downside of this upgrade though is that we lose the foldability for our handlebars which makes it difficult to transport the bike or even to store it. I searched for foldable options for this setup for a while and none were available. It then occurred to me that a solution to this could be made.

I tried to simply cut the original handlebar stem and modify it so that it could support the new setup. That’s how I came up with the design for the X1 – BMX stem.

The desire to make a better stem that would actually be better than the stock part was my focus on this design. As a professional, I took this task as my own. Making trials, Doing research, and finding the best material for the design. The simplicity that anyone could appreciate. Safety first in all aspects of the riding experience was always on my mind.

I would really like to ask for your support on this project to realize this dream that took me a year and a half to map out. Your contribution to this project will be compatible for all E-bike brands and even normal bicycles in need to be compact and at the same time safe for riding.

The funding target will let use produce the X1 stem at a reasonable price without compromising its quality. The funds will be destined mostly for manufacturing, labor, tooling, and materials for the X1. I am working on the testing, design, and marketing of the product with my team from “X-tems”. We are running the products’ delivery for the customized color option. We are also posting material on social networks to update you guys every step of the way!

The perks that will come together with the X1 STEM are our BMX1 stem, Custom Titanium handlebars, Custom XL Handlebars and our Titatnium Bolts. There are many color options for you to choose and personalize your upgraded Steering setup.

I’m confident that we will reach this goal to start production right away, That is 300 pieces in one shot.

I personally tested the first prototype and found it revealing how important the manufacturing processes involved and the selection of materials define a product like this.

The X1 is made from High Strength Aluminum Alloy (7075-T6), that’s double the strength of the standard 6160 / 6160 t6. We use the same alloy used for Airplanes’ wings and parts. It is by definition the lightest and strongest aluminum grade comparable to steel. Mostly not used due to the elevated cost, its properties are superior by far.

The robust design of the X1 does not have welding links, there are no weak weld links created by fusing extra aluminum on it. We have also conducted a strength test on the X1’s design and Multiple forces test acting on it in use. The X1 passed with remarkable results!
