Story

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

BLANKO is an experimental art film that follows the lives of Lino and Elena, two young aspiring artists living in Milan, as they attempt to shoot a short film. The film touches on the subjects of youth culture trying to find their place in the world, romance between two artists, and the difficulties of life as each interprets reality in different ways and gets caught up in their own melancholic minds. As the film progresses, we realize how distant Lino and Elena are from the present moment and how they live in two different narratives of reality from what is really happening. The film opens up a conversation about how there is no baseline reality, but each of us live in a different one, and this paradox leads us to question what reality is, and whether or not it is our own interpretation of it. We see how easy it is to drift away from what’s happening while struggling with mental health issues, and how the young artistic community glamorizes and romanticizes the idea of the suffering artist. This film aims to capture and freeze in time the youth culture in Milan forever. It’s a film about friendship, love, passion for creation, and the melancholy in our own imaginary worlds, a hard pill to swallow with a touch of comic irony about the reality of today’s art scene for the upcoming generations.

The short film is semi-inspired by the real lives of the crew members creating it, all young freelance artists from different places, such as Mexico, Milan, Germany, and LA, studying in the fields of art and coming together to create a very personal story that represents a whole generation of artists.

The Impact

Our message:

With this film, we intend to showcase the modern culture of young artists, as well as our place in the future of art and cinema. We will exhibit the modern problems and dilemmas the new generation is facing regarding our distorted perceptions of reality.

We want to touch the hearts of our generation by presenting a mirror of the current situations we deal with everyday, raising awareness towards tendencies that could lead to mental health episodes during our formative years. We want to open a new window of experimentation, not following the formats and structure of conventional filmmaking, striving for new ways of expressing and raising the bar for artists to join the new movement and evolution of art and film making. We want to do it in the youthful and characteristic way of our generation, making fun of the system and all it’s so called “rules” and “formats”, breaking the myths of how things could or should be done, we want to take what works and fix what doesn’t. This film opens up a big reflection for a whole generation of people joining this medium and the art world in general.

Risks & Challenges

We are a group of up and coming filmmakers with a lot of  passion for art and film. We have worked in numerous projects that has given us enough experience to know that this project has a huge amount of potential. However, the nature of this experimental project does come with creative and practical challenges that could potentially slow down the process of production and post- production.

We are sure we assembled the right team for this project and we are prepared to overcome any adversities that may present during the course of this production.
