2800MB/s | Thunderbolt 4 / USB 3.2 Gen2 | Up to 8TB | Rugged
Overview
We’re back with another product, Bitcube!
It is a high-performance SSD enclosure, built with carbon fiber that saves you time and enhances the performance of your device.
We like to use technical materials to design products. We used Kevlar fiber to build the Super Cable before. This time we use carbon fiber to build an SSD portable enclosure, which is lightweight, rugged, and high-performance.
This is our 7th time on Kickstarter, see previous reviews
1. Super Fast, Save your time
Speed Test
Up to 2800MB/s.* Write and read.
Bitcube will power through your most demanding workflows.
Data transmission test
Bitcube only takes 87 seconds to transfer 236G data, about 2710MB/s. It can save you a lot of time, especially for creators.
speed test with Mac mini M2
Bitcube is almost twice as fast as mac mini M2 (base version). And if you want to upgrade to 2TB, you need to spend an extra $800, while Bitcube (2TB) only costs $279.
2. Connect to Versatility
Dual Chip Controller. Built for compatibility with USB 4, Thunderbolt™ 4, and USB 3.2 Gen 2, this versatile drive enables you to efficiently collaborate across devices.
The Bitcube offers versatile dual-mode compatibility with both Thunderbolt 3/4 and USB 4/3.2 Gen 2.
3. Lightweight
Bitcube is only 95 grams, which is about half the weight of the iPhone 14.
It won’t be portable if it’s heavy.
So we used carbon fiber material to reduce weight and make it rugged at the same time.
4. Rugged
2m drop protection**
Compact design, lightweight and rugged, it is easy to carry.
5. Simple and all-in-one design
Bitcube goes well with your other desktop devices.
back
Bitcube is a good external hard drive for your MacBook, and the price is not expensive, if the MacBook Pro has an extra 2TB, you need to pay an extra $600
good grip
6. Maintains its Cool
The Bitcube is built with carbon fiber and aluminum to sustain ultra-fast speeds under its heaviest workflows.
Stefan-Boltzmann law, j*=εσΤ4
“An object that is good at absorbing radiation is also a good emitter, so a perfect black body would be the best possible emitter of radiation. There are no known objects that are perfect at absorbing or emitting all radiation of every possible frequency that may be directed at it.“
After half an hour of heavy running in the test, it didn’t slow down, while the temperature was just under 122F/50C.
Why use carbon fiber instead of aluminum for cooling?
Aluminum only has better thermal conductivity, but it does not mean better heat radiation. It is often necessary to increase the contact area with the air to improve heat dissipation. But it also means that the temperature of the aluminum can rise very quickly, potentially scalding the user. In order to avoid such accidents and disputes, many enclosures on the market, the SSDs do not have real contact with aluminum. Fortunately, the temperature control of the current SSD has been done very well, and the performance will not be lost due to excessive temperature.
Usually, people think that the faster the temperature rises, the better the heat dissipation, but it is wrong. Heat is a physical quantity, while the temperature is an appearance. Different substances have different specific heat capacities, which is why water dissipates heat better than aluminum.
According to Stefan-Boltzmann law, j*=εσΤ4, a larger temperature difference for the same substance can speed up heat dissipation, but the negative effect is that excessive temperature may cause burns. Or we can change to another material instead of aluminum.
Carbon fiber is balanced, It dissipates heat well enough to keep the newer SSDs at high performance, at the same time, it will not heat up rapidly like aluminum and cause burns.

Design
We want to make a high-performance, lightweight, and cool product that is more suitable for people’s mobile use.
We like to use technical materials to design products. We used Kevlar to build the Super Cables before. This time we are going to use carbon fiber.
In addition, we want it to be a high-performance box, perfect inside and out, and we have adopted high-spec chips and design solutions.
About
Bitcube is a storage product brand under Haloband.
Haloband began as a Kickstarter project in 2013. Like many startups, we relied on help from friends, family, and strangers to bring Haloband from concept to reality.
We are an innovative team, focusing on high-speed transmission and storage devices. We have made the acclaimed Super Cable series, and now we have launched the high-speed storage product Bitcube.
We like to use technical materials to provide solid and durable digital products with a sense of design.
Our team is based in San Francisco, Shenzhen, and Osaka. Craftsmanship is what we pursue. We have excellent product development engineers, and we have a mature production and manufacturing supply chain to ensure that our products are of high quality from design to output. Our Super Cable has received a great response since they were put on the market.
* Performance may vary based on host device, usage, hard drive capacity, and other factors.
**Based on internal testing.
Risks and challenges
As a hardware project, there are natural risks and challenges in engineering and manufacturing. Due to supply chain issues and other reasons, the final manufacturing schedule may be delayed. However, we will be as transparent as possible to keep you informed and work to resolve any issues that may arise. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
