Canadian Whisky of the Year 2023

We launched our whisky program in 2021 with the lofty goal of changing the face of Canadian whisky. We spent the better part of two years honing a signature whisky style with a high-rye mash bill bottled at cask-strength, that boasts big flavour with lots of fruit and spice. 

In January 2023, we made history by becoming the first ever craft distillery to win the prestigious award of ‘Canadian Whisky of the Year’ at the 2023 Canadian Whisky Awards. In addition to taking home top honours for our Caribbean Cask Rye ‘Palm Trees and a Tropical Breeze’, we also won 4 additional awards including:

– Canadian Whisky of the Year, Artisan Producer (Palm Trees and a Tropical Breeze)
– All-Rye Whisky of the Year (Palm Trees and a Tropical Breeze)
– Barrel Finished Whisky of the Year (Palm Trees and a Tropical Breeze)
– Gold medal (Palm Trees and a Tropical Breeze)
– Silver medal (Marshmallows over a Campfire)

To say we’re excited about this is an understatement. We’re completely blown away, both by the support of the industry and by the support of whisky-lovers like you!

We Need Your Help to Make More Whisky

We’re definitely not the type to complain about winning awards, but let’s just say we were not prepared for the overwhelming response we got as a result. We released our next whisky a month after we won the award and it sold out in TWO MINUTES FLAT. Crazy!

Interest in our whisky has quadrupled overnight, and while we are thrilled about it we just can’t keep up! Demand is currently far exceeding supply, so we need your help to ramp up our production and give the people what they want: MORE WHISKY!

What We Need & What You Get

During our first whisky campaign back in 2021, you helped us surpass our funding goal which made it possible for us to get our whisky program off the ground. We have casks from that campaign coming to maturity in 2024, but given the success of our whisky so far and the literal thousands of people waiting to get their hands on bottles, we’re predicting that we’ll continue to sell-out with each limited release.

Putting away whisky is expensive and cumbersome for a small distillery, so we need your help to make this possible. We are looking to raise $100,000 to help us step-up our current whisky production to meet present and future demand. This will help us grow our business, and increase the number of casks we fill each year, which in turn gets more whisky into the hands of awesome whisky-lovers like you!

Demand for more ‘Palm Trees and a Tropical Breeze’ has been so overwhelming that we decided to bring it back! Every iteration of this release boasts the same island vibes of banana, pineapple, and big vanilla-oak notes. This year, we’ve sourced some beautiful Caribbean rum barrels from Barbados and filled them with our fruitiest 100% rye whisky.

Nothing says summer like a whisky aged in tequila barrels! We took some of our spiciest 3-year rye whisky and finished it in reposado tequila barrels sourced from Jalisco, Mexico. It’s grassy, it’s spicy — it’s delicious.

We finished some of our 100% rye in a Woods Spirit Co. amaro barrel for a truly unique sipper — like a boulevardier in a bottle.

15 Gallon Cask of 100% Rye Whisky
Dreamed of owning your own cask? Make it a reality!

Invest in a 15 gallon cask of our delicious 100% rye whisky, and either have us age it at the distillery or take with you and age it wherever you want. After 3 years have passed and the whisky is mature, we’ll bottle it for you to take home for sharing with friends and family (you won’t believe how popular you’ll be).

Risks & Challenges

While demand for our whisky is high, this project like any other is not without risks. Here are a few of the risks that the distillery currently faces:

• Inflation is a real $%#@! It’s possible that with the rising cost of raw materials we could end up making less whisky than we had hoped. We’ll make sure to prioritize your perks though!
• Whisky needs to age for a minimum of 3 years, but often needs more time to be considered “mature.” This might mean that bottles are delayed or take a bit longer than anticipated.
• Evaporation happens! The angels take their share of each cask and while we do account for these losses, they can sometimes be unpredictable.
• We could get struck by lightning, anvil on the head, piano falling from a roof, fall down a well etc., etc…
