The Other Room
Funding Extravaganza!
Hey! It’s Kourtney Gleason, Alexis Archer and Ashley Carr!
If you are you are receiving this it means you’re very special to us and that you have inspired or guided our careers over the years.
I’m so thrilled to announce that I, Kourtney, will be directing my first independent thriller short film for festivals! Its a good one too- the script alone is already winning awards internationally. Born from Alexis’ week long fever dream, “The Other Room” explores how far a woman will go to keep her family safe, even if it means locking her husband in his room every night.
We are now accepting financial contributions at all levels. Truly, any donation amount helps and your support over the years has been priceless to us. Higher level donations include film credits and prizes.
Thank you for encouraging our art and we are eternally grateful for your support. Thank you!

A detailed note on how we got here:
I’m Kourtney Gleason and I had the honor of writing a short with my friend Alexis Archer. During the first Covid lockdown in 2020 I asked Alexis to write me a dark psychological thriller, that left the audience wanting more. A small peak into a full length feature. Directing a dramatic mystery has always been a dream of mine and the lock down gave us the opportunity to create something different; something that has never been done, but feels hauntingly familiar.
Through persistent determination and collaboration- we did it! We wrote something people found fascinating and we are proud to share- AND WE HAVE! Since then, Alexis entered the script into several festivals and competitions where it won Best Screenplay (short) at the L.A. Film Awards and Hollywood Just 4 Shorts. It even gained international acclaim in Italy where it recieved official selection for the Florence Film Awards (2022). With that notourity came the boost of confidence we needed, and we are thrilled to move forward and make this dream come true.
But we can’t do it without you. 🙂
Meet the Team
Kourtney Gleason: Writer, Director, Producer
As some of you may know I have been producing for over 12 years, making both features and episodic in scripted and documentary. Producing such films as Becoming Bond (Hulu + SXSW Audience Award 2017) Periodical (Peacock Original + SXSW Documentary 2023) Hollywood Darlings Season 2 (Pop Network, Co-EP, Writer & Producer) Agua Donkeys + The Coop (Funny or Die + Roku) – to see more of my work, please check out www.kourtneygleason.tv
I’ve been very lucky to consistently work as a producer in the industry that I love, but have yet to go in on my own passion project. And this is definitely it. The story itself is so incredibly important to me, and I am eager to share it and many more with the world.
For years, I have happily brought other creative geniuses work into the big screen, I tell myself “next week I’ll work on my project” and ‘next week’ turns to ‘next month’, and you get it. In this moment I know that there is no time like the present to chase your happiness, and the only thing that can stop you is fear. So I hope for all of those who I’ve supported in their growing careers, that this is the time where it comes on back my way. 🙂

Eddy Scully: Cinematographer
Alongside cinematographer, Eddy Scully, we are building a visual language and determining our overall look. Eddy has been gaffing professionally in film and tv for 9 + years and as a cinematographer brings an incredible knowledge and eye to the project. He has worked as Director of Photography multiple full length feature films all beautifully shot with a meticulously shaped visual world. It’s been remarkable working with such a passionate human being with a deep knowledge of all things cinema. Eddy brings a strong network of Camera, Grip and Electric to the production filled with experienced and talented artists.
About the Budget:
I’ve assessed a low budget bid and schedule for the production. We want to pay people for their contributions so people feel encouraged to collaborate on something noteworthy. After years of production I can’t bear asking people to work for free in an industry we are always giving above and beyond. And of course, respect for talent and collaboration gives people the freedom to make great art. Not that we wont be using our years of connections to ask for some favors. Even with all of our “hook ups” and favors, our budget brings us to around $40,000.00.
This goes to camera, G&E, and sound equipment rentals, locations, labor, production design, art department, permits, talent, wardrobe, transportation, hair and make up, special effects and post. After all this film will be submitted to festivals, so we want to put our best foot forward.
Finally:
We are excited to link such an exceptional team together and look forward to breathing life into this story. I hope that you join us.
Thank you,
Kourtney, Alexis and Ashley
