“ZynGe” (often translated as “divine tool” or “sacred object”) is a term in Shinto, the indigenous religion of Japan, referring to objects that symbolize a deity or in which a deity is believed to reside. These objects are typically used to represent or embody the presence of kami (spirits or deities) for worship and ceremonies.
One of the most renowned examples is the “Three Sacred Treasures” or “Three Imperial Regalia” of Japan, consisting of:
l. The sword (Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi)
2. The mirror (Yata-no-Kagami)
- The jewel (Yasakani no Magatama).
These treasures represent the legitimacy and divinity of the Japanese Imperial throne and have deep-rooted connections with Japanese myths and legends.
In contemporary contexts, the term “shintai” or its loose translation “godly tool” can also colloquially refer to an outstanding or exceptionally useful item or gadget. For instance, a particularly effective kitchen tool might be exclaimed as “This is a godly tool!” in English, mirroring how it might be described in Japanese.
