Care labels are uncomfortable on the skin. They are itchy. And when they stick out from underneath clothing, they are visible to others. It’s no surprise that 60% of individuals choose to remove the care label. Or at least try to. It’s a frustrating effort: what’s left of the label frays or you cut holes into the fabric. This is why we delevoped LUKE. LUKE puts an end to annoying care labels and leaves a feeling of comfort.

LUKE – the tool

LUKE is the world’s first technical solution for the ‘care label problem’: LUKE removes the care label without damaging the textile. It precisely cuts and seals the seam. Designed in Switzerland and Germany, produced in the Czech Republic, assembled in Germany – that’s our quality promise. And it so easy to use!

Technology

LUKE can cut labels with up to four layers (with a width of up to 4.5cm) in a single thermal cut (cutting time: ~3sec). The heated wire is powered by three standard AAA batteries, allowing up to 100 cuts with one set. Clamping the label eliminates the risk of injury to the user. Our technical features, design, and wordmark are patent pending. The initial report from the patent office is positive, and both the design and wordmark have already been successfully patented.

LUKE – the app 

Missing label means missing care info. The consequence: More than 90% of our clothes have a significantly shorter lifespan than they should. With the support of LUKE, the lifespan of clothes can be significantly increased again and the energy consumption during washing can be greatly reduced. 

The LUKE app creates a digital twin of one’s wardrobe and the data is available for a number of applications with just one “click”. The LUKE app is made for people who:
• want to use their clothes in a sustainable way,
• want to access all information on their clothes in one app.

Road map

Our LUKE journey started almost 2 years ago. The idea for LUKE actually came from everyday life. It was the ugly frayed ends of cut-off labels that gave us the spark. We quickly realized that we weren’t the only ones fed up with the status quo. Thanks to the support of excellent industrial designers in Switzerland and Germany – as well as our own passion & resilience – we came closer to our goal step by step. Today, we are about to start the first series production.

While we have raised enough capital to fund the development of LUKE, we are turning to Kickstarter to help cover upcoming expenses. With your support, we can take the final steps: making adjustments to the design, lab testing and certifications and producing the first 1,500 units.

We, Christoph & Stefan, have been bothered by care labels on textiles since we were babies ?. Then, 2 years ago, we had the idea of a device that could remove labels properly – without fraying them or cutting into the fabric. With LUKE, we can finally blend our extensive experience in strategy and innovation consulting (Stefan) with software and hardware development (Christoph).
