We would like to introduce ourselves. 

We are Sapporo International Church (SIC). We are located in Sapporo city, on the northern island of Hokkaido in Japan. We were established in 1984 by missionaries from the missionary organization OMF and are part of the Japan Evangelical Church Association (JECA) churches in Japan. Currently, we have a congregation of about 150 members, 3 full time pastors and cooperating missionaries, and 4 Sunday services; Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and English. 

Our mission area is the greater Sapporo City area, having a population of about 2.6 million people. We are based in the Soen area of Sapporo city, just west of the heart of Sapporo city and just south of Hokkaido University, on the the 7 Imperial universities in Japan. This makes SIC a uniquely diverse church, with a church family from all walks of life and many different cultural backgrounds. 

SIC is a unique church in Sapporo, as one of the few international churches in the city. It looks to reach out to the people in the Soen area and it looks to reach out to those from abroad. Many people come to Hokkaido to study at Hokkaido University or as workers. SIC holds many events that look to reach out to both communities. These events range from worship related (church service, weekly prayer meets, Kids church, and bible studies) to community centered (potlucks, sports events, concerts, and kids/family days).

Our church building is 50+ years old for Japanese buildings, and does not meet the new earthquake standards put in place.  We are currently raising funds for the new building and due to our conjugation being international we are reaching out to you in faith.

Funds needed

Below is the amount needed to be raised and where we are at at the time of starting this fundraiser. It’s a large amount so any amount that you feel you can give would be a blessing. 

Target amount: 450 million yen, about 3 million US dollars.

Current fund: 50 million yen (March 2023), about 300,000 US dollars.

Required amount: 400 million yen, 2.7million US dollars.

*Due to currency exchange fees, if you feel led to donate we want to donate, the fee is a bit pricey, so it may be best to donate as a church or community. 

Project Schedule 

   2025: Decision on the basic plan and start of the implementation design,

                           Contracts with design firms and construction companies, financing.

   2026: Financing and construction start.

   2027: Completed and dedicated.

The Glory of God Through the Construction of the New Church Building

Building a church building is a part of building up Christ’s church. The church building will help Sapporo International Church (SIC) continue to walk as the Lord’s church.

Through this effort, we hope to become a church that further manifests the glory of God, grow as the body of Christ, and add many new people as people of worship. We hope to mature in worship, deepen in fellowship, and advance in mission in the presence of the Lord.

In addition, we hope to fulfill our role as a “city-centered church,” which was confirmed at the time of our founding in 1984, and to experience the special grace that is given to the international church, in which multi-ethnic groups are united in following the Lord together and tasting the foretaste of the Kingdom of Heaven.

Four Concepts

The floor plan on this page is a congregation hall with an estimated cost of 450 million yen, which was built by a design firm in December 2021 after about a year of discussions by the committee, prayer meetings, etc., in accordance with the four concepts.

1. A church building where worship pleasing to God can be offered.

To value worship and make it a place where people can offer focused worship, regardless of whether the form of worship is joint or not.

2．A church building where we can have fellowship in the Lord.

Make it a place to pray, eat, and enjoy fellowship.

3. A church building where the next generation can inherit the Kingdom of God.

Make it a place where children can concentrate on Bible study, have fun, play, and feel safe.

4. A church building used for evangelism

Make it easy for anyone to enter and use the place for various evangelistic activities.

Prayer Requests

Pray that it will be an exemplary new church building that will build up the Church of Christ and display the glory of God.

Pray that we may rely on the wisdom of God, not on the wisdom of men. That we will do God’s will, not our own. May we proceed by listening to God.

Pray that each person on the committee, beginning with the March 2019 General Meeting, will be protected in body and soul. May they serve with grace and joy.

Pray for the realization of the dedication in November 2027, as decided at the March 2023 general meeting.

Pray that all our needs will be met, including financial.
