“Why We Are Raising Money for “Builders of the Silicon Dream”

The Story and Its Importance

“Builders of the Silicon Dream” is a groundbreaking documentary that unveils the untold story of early Asian immigrants and their profound impact on Silicon Valley and the global tech economy. Directed by Tony Shyu, known for his award-winning PBS film “The Race Epidemic,” this film explores themes of immigration, innovation, economic symbiosis, and cultural integration. It captures the personal journeys, struggles, and triumphs of individuals who have significantly shaped the tech industry from the 1960s to the present day.

Our Goal

We are raising $400,000 to launch an impact campaign to maximize the documentary’s reach and influence. Our ultimate goal is to bring awareness, educate, and inspire through schools, universities, communities, and corporate platforms. To achieve this, we must reach mainstream media and raise recognition for the film’s message.

While our film will be featured on PBS, we aspire to reach even wider audiences through mainstream streaming platforms like Netflix, Apple TV, Amazon Prime, HBO, and Hulu. To achieve this, we are pursuing a film festival award strategy to raise awareness and attract mainstream media attention. We aim to enter prestigious festivals such as Sundance, Toronto, Berlin, Cannes, SXSW, and Venice, and pursue awards including the Independent Spirit Awards, Golden Globes, and the Oscars for Best Documentary Feature Film.

Join Us

By supporting “Builders of the Silicon Dream,” you are helping to highlight an essential part of American history and ensuring that the contributions of Asian immigrants to the tech industry are recognized and celebrated. Together, we can inspire future generations and promote a more inclusive and informed society.

Why Promotion Matters

In today’s oversaturated media landscape, even a high-quality film can be easily overlooked without effective promotion. Unlike major movie studios with substantial marketing budgets, independent films like ours rely on festival submissions and awards to generate publicity. Without promotion, the film risks being released without making the impact it deserves. Hosting events in locations like Silicon Valley and LA will ensure exposure to key industry figures, media, and press, amplifying the film’s impact on a broader audience.
