East meets West in an action-packed spectacle with mind-blowing SFX – a film by Yoshihiro Nishimura

Story

In Yoshiwara, the legendary pleasure quarter of Tokyo, rival bosses of Japanese Yakuza and American Mafia fight for control over the historic Geisha street. Blood will be shed… like fountains.

Girls and Corpses Films is beyond thrilled to be collaborating with visionary Japanese filmmaker Yoshihiro Nishimura on a wild new motion picture splatter-ganza—bringing his unique, hallucinatory brand of blood-drenched insanity and hilarity for the first time ever to Indiegogo.

Set in a dystopian, reimagined historical world of Nishimura’s vivid imagination, Geisha War promises to be a cinematic treat—an “East meets West” clash unlike any other. From intricate choreography to eye-popping special effects, every frame of Geisha War will find Nishimura pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling—all punctuated by the ultra-violence of vengeful, sword-swinging Geisha warriors, and gallons, and gallons of blood!

The majority of pre-production planning (including the script) for Geisha War has already been completed with a talented cast and crew already lined-up. Actors confirmed aboard include Jake Busey (Starship Troopers), Tamao Satō (Suicide Club), Natsumi Tadano (Onimanji), Miyuki Torii (Meatball Machine Kodoku) and the legendary Syun Sugata (Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2, Tokyo Gore Police)—with more to be announced!

We’re now reaching out to the Indiegogo community to help us raise enough funds for shooting to commence in scouted locations both in the US and Japan.

As appreciation for your contribution, we have assembled an incredible range of reward perks for this campaign that include a digital download of the finished film, signed Ltd. Edition Blu-ray, tickets to cast & crew screenings (in Tokyo and Los Angeles), signed one-sheet poster, and signed script. All backers that pledge for physical rewards will receive their name in the credits of the film! Higher-tier perks include an incredibly rare opportunity to own an original storyboard from Nishimura’s Tokyo Gore Police, pitch your own movie to the director or producer, and a chance to speak a line of dialogue in Geisha War (and gain an actor’s credit on IMDb)—or you can even decide to participate in the movie as a credited producer.

With your support on Indiegogo, we can surely bring this ambitious vision to life—so please join us on a madcap trip with director Yoshihiro Nishimura and let’s make Geisha War a reality!

Who’s making this movie?

I’m Robert Rhine, President of Girls and Corpses Films (Exorcism At 60,000 Feet, Bikers VS Werewolves, Cynthia, Pig Killer, 31Night Caller, Parasites,The Chair, and others) and producer of Geisha War. You may also know me as “Corpsy,” Founder and Deaditor-in-Chief of Girls and Corpses magazine.

If you are tired of endless studio superhero flicks, animated movies and repetitive action and horror sequels, offering nothing new or exciting, and want to be part of a film that explodes with an original story, unbelievable martial arts and FX, then Geisha War is a motion picture that you can help make… and here’s your chance!

Why do we need your support?

Geisha War has been a long term goal which was disrupted by the pandemic in 2020 when we had originally planned to film the movie. We never gave up, however, and we feel that now is the time to finally get Geisha War into production.

We want Geisha War to be a film that is made by YOU, the Indiegogo family. It’s a way to engage with you before a movie is even in production. And helping fund this film means you are an active part of the film community.

We are delighted to be working with legendary Japanese filmmaker Yoshihiro Nishimura who wants this to be his wildest, most cinematic movie that he’s ever made.

Risks & Challenges

Our challenges are the same as any filmmakers, raising the budget we need to make this original script into a reality with an amazing director at the helm. Films need money, and we are no different, for such expenses as locations, costumes, equipment and everything else it takes to get a film made.

But what we do have is 50 years of experience between Robert Rhine and Yoshihiro Nishimura on over two dozen movies. So, we are extremely committed to making this film!

NOTE: All dates for rewards are based on an approximation but we hope to begin shooting in the Fall of 2024. Please be aware that rewards are contingent on that date and could be subject to change.

Yoshihiro Nishimura (西村喜廣)

Filmmaker Yoshihiro Nishimura lives by his own rules. Known affectionately by fans as the uncontested ‘godfather of contemporary Japanese horror,’ he’s responsible for cult classics such as Tokyo Gore Police and Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl. A glance at his IMDB page shows just how influential he’s been as a make-up artist: a veritable wizard of carnage. Japan’s Tom Savini.

In a career spanning three decades, Nishimura has done about every job on the credit crawl—from gaffer to director. He is best known, however, as a mad master of effects and makeup, spewing blood sprays that achieve a certain demented grandeur and building fantastic creatures that resemble raging piles of medical waste with body parts attached.

His low-budget movies may get labeled as sci-fi or action, but they’re little like the films of those genres that at least attempt to maintain a veneer of sanity. Many, such as Tokyo Gore Police and Hell Driver, have played at international festivals and been released on subbed DVDs. Despite this recognition, Nishimura rarely strays outside the exploitation ghetto.

Wherever Nishimura dives in, he makes a huge crimson splash—but he’s far more than just a bloody face. A bonafide jack-of-all-trades auteur, he’s a DIY screenwriter, producer, director, make-up artist, FX master and editor. Even better, in the process of achieving all that with minimal outside assistance, he has developed an unmistakable—and surprisingly hilarious—style.

”My number one goal is to amuse my audience. Many filmmakers are too selfish; they make their movies for themselves, like masturbation.”

Nishimura is pure entertainer at heart. He showed up at his premiere in a blood-spattered white jumpsuit, throwing candy to his audience. During the film’s credits, he stole the mic and danced down the aisles singing along to his movie’s theme music. When the lights came up, he got a standing ovation. And during the Q&A that followed, when an audience-member asked for an explanation of the film’s meaning, he belly-laughed, pulled out a Vodka Nip and downed it.

“For your amusement!” he bellowed. “That’s why I give you candy. The film’s meaning is pure entertainment.” — No Film School
