Veterans
Should Not Come Home To Being Homeless

About
one-third of the adult homeless population has served their country
in the Armed Services.

Current
population estimates show that over37,000
Veterans are homeless on any given night and perhaps twice as many
experience homelessness at some point during the course of the
year.

According
to PIT (The
Point-in-Time (PIT) Count is an annual effort led by the
U.S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
to
estimate the number of Americans, including Veterans, without safe,
stable housing. It is one of the tools used to assess progress each
year toward VA’s priority goal of ending homelessness among
Veterans.
),
this year to date, more than 11,000 veterans have found permanent
housing and critically needed support services through the HUD-VASH
program, while 37,085 veterans experienced homelessness in January
2019.

There
is a slow yet steady decrease in the number of homeless veterans due
to the efforts of communities all across the country.

Still,
much more still needs to be done, and
each of us can contribute to that.

Our
mission
is to

provide accommodation services
and
housing opportunities to veterans who were previously homeless and
are looking for permanent housing.

We
start small to make a big impact.

We
start by furnishing
and equipping 5 locations

we have already identified, including 31 bedrooms to fit the needs of
homeless veterans in need.

this campaign will
go into the refurnishing and equipping the
5 locations
in Bainbridge,
Afton, North Norwich, and
8
mount Upton and
it includes:

  1. 31
    furnished bedrooms

  2. 5
    fully equipped kitchens

  3. In-house
    laundry & cleaning
    services for all 5 locations

  4. Cable
    TV, Internet
    and phone connection

  5. Electricity,
    heat and water

  6. Handy
cap ramp to 1st floor entries in all 5 locations

  7. Handy
cap baths with walk in showers in all 5 locations

  8. Off

  9. Maintenance
    repairs, lawn mowing, snowing removal

  10. Medical
    assistance and security direct access

The
vast majority of
homeless Veterans are single, and most come from poor, disadvantaged
backgrounds and
about
45% of them
suffer from mental illness and
abuse problems.

America’s
homeless veterans have served in World War II, the Korean War, Cold
War, Vietnam War, Grenada, Panama, Lebanon, Persian Gulf War,
Afghanistan and Iraq (OEF/OIF), and the military’s anti-drug
cultivation efforts in South America.

Two-thirds
served our country for at least three years, and one-third
were stationed in a war zone.

With
our efforts we want to contribute to making a home for the veterans
in need who are still on the street and bring our own way of thanking
them for serving for our safety. They fought for our homes to be
safe, we want them to feel safe and at home too.
