Our beloved cocktail bar must leave The Africa Centre, and we need help to secure our new home.
Who We Are
Hi, my name is Kwame Amaning, Founder of Abura, an African cocktail and art bar, whose focus is celebrating the African diaspora, their talents, and their legacy.
I am 25 years old, black, living in London, and spend every day incredibly grateful to my village and those who have supported me. I have been blessed to earn scholarships to some of the best education there is to offer, and I have worked extremely hard to launch my cocktail bar.
Right now, my bar is operating in The Africa Centre in Southwark, and this campaign has come as big decision for myself, and my team.
To my dismay, I have found our beloved bar in a difficult position: we must leave The Africa Centre. Though I have taken a step towards achieving my dream, I have learned that not everything in life is able to go as planned. Despite this, I will not give up. I do not want to. Abura is a part of who I am. I still work every day, making cocktails, finding new recipes, learning from each step along the way. I will do whatever it takes, but I can not do it alone.
What We Need
Our problem, and our solution is really quite simple: we need a new venue. That’s it. A team, we have it, A menu, we have it. Everything you could possible think a bar needs, we have it. Except one thing. A home. We need your help in raising our funds to secure a new space. All your support will go towards the deposit and rent. After that, me and my brilliant team can take care of the rest. With your help, I can achieve this dream for us all, and for everyone who helps us out, no matter how big or small, your impact will make a difference.
Abura, the Akan word for “drinking well” is a place for the community to come together. As with all children, I was raised by a village who would come together to support me and my dreams. Everyone who supports us becomes a part of our village too. Whilst we complete our time at The Africa Centre, every donation provided will give each donor The Village Discount, as a small part of our thank you for whenever you visit the bar.
The Road Ahead
The path is not always certain. And you may wonder what brought us here in the first place: starting a business comes with risks, and whether making a mistake, or earning a triumph, I have learned what it truly takes to run a business that impacts the community for the better. I have brought together a team that has achieved the unthinkable in such a short space of time. And we have overcome so many hurdles to make it this far, and together, I know that we are prepared to take our next steps.
I love to make drinks, make people happy, and serve my community. I appreciate every bit of support to helping me achieve this dream with my cocktail bar, and even if you can not donate, you can still help by sharing our story and letting others know that I will not give up on my dreams, and Abura is for The Village, and The Village is open to all.
