Story

In the urban jungle, we often feel busy, exhausted, and oppressed. When we step into nature—walking through forests, running across meadows, and trekking through snowy landscapes—we immediately feel the comfort and tranquility that nature provides. We need places both to remember and to forget time.

In Eastern philosophy, there is a concept known as ‘the unity of heaven and man, which emphasizes the harmony between humanity and nature. Accordingly, we draw as much as possible from nature for our materials and look to it for inspiration.

At the foot of the mountain, we were surrounded by lush trees. As we ascended, we encountered sparse saplings and low bushes, until, higher up, only moss remained. At the summit, we stood enveloped by snow and clouds. This climb has provided us with new insights into life, inspiring us to incorporate mountains into our design elements.

At the seaside, we felt the waves gently lapping at our feet. As our boat sailed farther into the ocean, the waves grew larger. In the deep sea, huge waves rolled, and our small boat struggled to withstand the impact—conditions that could challenge even large ships. This journey into the deep sea has profoundly deepened our appreciation of nature’s grandeur and magnificence, leading us to also include the sea as one of our watch design elements.

The overall design adopts a motif of half mountain, half sea.

A mechanical movement represents the pinnacle of human craftsmanship, integrating over 100 parts within a compact model. It maintains a precision error of no more than five seconds. The skeletonized design of the movement allows wearers to witness this top-tier craftsmanship firsthand.

The watch hands feature a curved design resembling tree branches, a departure from the traditional linear design of previous models. A bird is also incorporated into the design on the hand, inspired by the saying, ‘It’s not that the bird cannot fly over the ocean, but that there is no longer anything waiting on the other side.

The case is crafted using precision stamping technology, applying 50-ton pressure in 12 stages to form a rough blank from a titanium metal plate. It then undergoes meticulous processing for one hour with a six-axis CNC engraving machine to carve out detailed mountain textures. Finally, in a vacuum environment, the material is heated to 1100°C and left to cool down over 24 hours, naturally forming a delicate network of veins on the surface that resemble blossoming ice flowers.

Equipped with the 6600A high-precision movement, this watch maintains an accuracy of plus or minus 5 seconds over 24 hours and has a built-in energy reserve of about 38 hours. It supports automatic winding, so long-term wear does not require manual winding—daily movement is sufficient to maintain energy reserves. This movement is currently favored by many leading brands.

The body is made of aerospace-grade titanium alloy, which has a superior strength-to-weight ratio than most other metals. Titanium is lightweight, durable and extremely biocompatible, making it one of the friendliest metals for the human body. This provides a safe and comfortable experience for the wearer.

The device is water-resistant to a depth of 5 ATM, capable of functioning normally up to 50 meters underwater.

The upper and lower covers are made of sapphire crystal, which boasts a Mohs hardness rating of 9, second only to diamonds. This makes it scratch-resistant and durable. Additionally, with a blue-coated treatment, the crystal can refract varying shades of blue under different lighting conditions.

The hands and dial are coated with Swiss luminous paint, which requires just 10 minutes of light exposure to emit a glow that lasts over 8 hours in the dark.

The strap is made of select genuine leather from the USA. The luxury-grade leather textile process renders the strap softer, stronger, firmer, and more wear-resistant.

“We need a place to remember time, and a place to forget it.” — Shan Hai.

Urban life can be exhausting, hectic, and oppressive, with the jungle of steel and concrete feeling suffocating; life shouldn’t be this way. It’s time to pause, and on a typical morning, with the first rays of the sun, step into nature and embrace the truest version of ourselves.

The breeze is misty, the sun rises, and the clouds part. Grass sways in the wind, reminiscent of ocean waves, light filtering through the leaves, dappling the forest path. The sun sparkles on the beach, the mountain wind tousles my hair, and the sea’s waves soak my feet—I simply want to quietly feel the moment and sense the passage of time, as if eternal, yet subject to entropy.

At this moment, I wonder: is city life designed to make us forget that we also once came from nature?

I have traversed snowy mountains and crossed seas. The tranquility and majesty of nature, profound and magnificent, make me feel the smallness and resilience of those born into this world.

The journey of climbing mountains mirrors the first half of my life. As a child, I was rosy and innocent, amid the lush, green foothills. As a teenager, I was strong-willed, with the trees green and the flowers red along the trails. As a young man, full of ambition; the daisies on the mountainside were extraordinarily spirited. By adulthood, reaching the summit, I was surrounded by a blanket of white. I captured the beauty of this journey with my eyes, embedding it in my heart. At the top of the mountain, amid wind and snow, yet not despondent, I realized that beyond one mountain lies another. Growing up through time, and harboring thoughts while climbing, I knew there should be “a mountain” in my design.

The sea laps at my feet on the shore, refracts blue spots under my boat, and gently rocks my boat like a cradle. It lifts fishing boats high and throws them back to the surface. I stagger in the boat as waves, like cliffs made of water, slap against ocean-going freighters, submerging them before lifting them to the sky. I held my breath in the black waters, and when the lost sounds reappeared, though the wind was not calm and the waves were not quiet, a rainbow was already hanging in the sky. This experience of showing courage in the face of the sea is truly a tried-and-true one, and each time I reminisce, there should be “a sea” in my design.

These mountains and seas represent my understanding of life and my hopes for it.

I truly hope I can go out at any time, to enjoy the natural scenery, to feel the breath of heaven and earth, like a petrel, flying freely between the mountains and the sea, reaching the clouds, then diving freely, or resting on a branch or beside a reef.

The majesty of the mountains, the vastness of the sea, and the choices of man unite in the mysterious East into the philosophy of “the unity of heaven and man.”

Universal watch design often pursues the complexity of craftsmanship and functionality of the assembly, while the relationship between man, nature, and time is always ignored and forgotten. This philosophy of “the unity of man and nature” or “Tao” is seldom seen in watches. If there is no such expression, then let it start with me, and if there is, then I will become a proponent of this philosophical thinking.

I strive to engrave “this mountain” and “this sea” into my designs, not for any other reason, but because every time I look at them, they remind me of the relationship between man and nature, and evoke the desire for freedom.
