Story

AMO: A New Generation Sports Drink

 

 

AMO is an all-natural, zero-sugar, keto-friendly, superfood-based sports drink. It is packed with essential vitamins, electrolytes, and antioxidants. AMO can be consumed before, during, or after workouts. AMO’s patent pending sports drink formula includes the use of cacao, which makes it the only product of its kind.

Antioxidants – AMO contains polyphenol antioxidants called flavanols that come from cacao. These antioxidants are known to lower blood pressure, improve blood flow, and fight cell damage.

Electrolytes – AMO contains sodium, potassium, and magnesium to support the nerve and muscle functions, regulate fluid balance, and hydrate the body during rigorous sports activity. 

Vitamins – AMO contains Vitamins B12 and D3 to support energy, bodily performance, and functionality. 


 

Although it might be hard to wrap your head around the use of cacao in a sports drink, cacao is only used in AMO for antioxidant support. AMO does not taste anything like a chocolate drink. Most people won’t even know it contained cacao. AMO assumes the taste of its natural fruit flavors and has the same texture and fluidity as any ordinary sports drink!

Why We Use Cacao.

 

We use cacao for several reasons. Cacao is a superfood with many proven health benefits. It has polyphenol antioxidants called flavonoids, which are said to decrease the amount free radicals and toxins in our body. It contains nitric oxide which can relax our blood vessels, improve blood flow, and reduce blood pressure. These functions are great for the heart and cognitive function; primarily supporting memory, alertness, and reaction time.

Cacao, in its original form, contains the natural electrolytes; magnesium, potassium, and calcium. It is also made up of amino acids that produce feel-good chemicals called serotonin that can act as an antidepressant by boosting overall mood. According to studies, the consistent use of cacao may support athletic performance; most importantly by, increasing energy and endurance, improving mental focus, and supporting blood flow.

At this time, healthy food and beverage consumers are seeking more natural and organic products that provide functional benefits. They prefer products with fewer ingredients and easy to read nutrition facts. 

 

 

Most beverage consumers list sugar as their number one dietary concern. Today’s athletes have become more conscious of the negative effects of sugary beverages and how it can slow their athletic development and performance on and off the field. 

 

AMO Sports Drink vs Traditional Sports Drinks

 

 

Cacao is generally used in milk, powder, or protein shakes. AMO’s concept of integrating cacao into a sports drink makes it a unique one-of-a-kind product sitting in a category of its own.

AMO sports drink does not contain any sugar while traditional sports drinks average 30-40 grams per bottle. AMO does not contain any artificial flavors, dyes, or ingredients.

AMO has 90% few calories and 200% more electrolytes than traditional sports drinks.

AMO uses a PET, BPA Free, recyclable plastic bottle.

The AMO Story

 

I’ve worked in the sports industry as a business professional for several years. I also taught my sister and many youth the game of basketball. My sister became a varsity athlete and adopted a vegetarian lifestyle. Spending time with her taught me about the various food alternatives available for athletes. However, there weren’t many suitable beverage options. I would watch kids practice then consume over 100 grams of sugar per day just from sports drinks. But the idea of AMO did not come me or my experience, it came from God!

One night, I fell asleep and the connection between cacao and sports was revealed to me in a dream. When I woke up and did some research, I learned how cacao could potentially have a positive impact on athletic performance. In that moment, I knew God was trying to tell me something. I immediately called my sister and started formulating AMO.

In 2020, AMO participated in the Georgetown University Entrepreneurship Competition and won the first-place prize! This was huge for us because Georgetown is the home of many successful food and beverage brands. Since then, we’ve built relationships with several beverage industry experts and worked on improving AMO’s quality, taste, and consistency. After working with licensed food scientists to produce countless iterations, we finally had a shelf ready product.

We started out by proving product market fit through surveying and sampling AMO in the market. Then we pitched AMO to local grocery stores, gyms, and Pro-AM sports leagues in the DC Metropolitan Area.

Today we have received pre-approval for shelf-space at about 10 locations and have been cosigned by both current and former professional athletes.

Risks and Challenges

AMO is ready to launch in-store and online. However, we do not have the necessary funding to stock shelves and meet market demand. Many people have told us not to get into the beverage industry, saying “less than 1% of new beverages succeed”, and “the beverage industry is too competitive”. But these words have only motivated us to continue pursuing our dream.

There is a need for products like AMO, and we believe the launch of AMO will revolutionize the sports drink industry. Our only roadblock is funding. Turning AMO into a successful brand will require much more funding than this initial campaign, but your contribution will help us get to the most important stage = market launch.
