In its journey, an imperial zeppelin is thrown into chaos when its crew disappears and is attacked by three supernatural entities that intend to seize the mysterious cargo of the dirigible; a monolith from the ancient lost civilization of Solomon.
Trying to prevent the destruction of the airship and stop their monstrous attackers, Soren, the last remaining knight on board, unwittingly releases an enigmatic entity that was imprisoned inside the artifact.
And when everything begins to be engulfed by the monolith, the mysterious being will offer a deal to the knight in exchange for his salvation and that of the few remaining passengers on board; he must accompany her to the heart of the Abyss and discover why she was sealed there.
That will be the beginning of a journey that will take them through the remains of an ancient extinct civilization to discover the secret of its fall… or maybe, the whole world will suffer the same fate.
In Song from the Abyss you explore a huge non-linear interconnected world as you uncover mysteries, interact with diverse characters and face all sorts of dangers. On your way you will be the one who choose where to go, which enemies to face, which puzzles to solve and who to believe. Naturally, you will also face epic bosses that will put all your skills to the test.
In the adventure you will take simultaneous control of two different characters, the knight Soren and the strange entity Noein, each of which has its own abilities that you can customize to suit your own style of play.
Anima Song from the Abyss offers an action-packed combat system inspired by great Hack and Slash titles such as Devil May Cry or Nier Automata. In the game, the characters have two types of actions; basic moves, such as attack and dodge, and special abilities, which can be freely assigned to any button you wish. Each special ability can be combined with basic attacks or another ability, creating intuitive combos as complex as you want; it all depends on your imagination and playstyle.
One of the most characteristic elements of Song from the Abyss combat is the Dual System, which allows you to switch from one character to another in the middle of any action by pressing a single button. Thanks to the unique synergy that the protagonists share, when you switch from one to the other, the new character will appear doing a special action that combines with what their partner was doing. In this way, you can unleash a sequence of attacks as spectacular as effective, which you can also customize depending on the skills that each character has developed.
Every time you attack an enemy you will not only cause damage but also increase his Stagger meter. When it fills up completely, you will break their guard, momentarily stunning them and leaving them vulnerable. If you react fast enough and activate a chained action with the Dual System, you will be able to use it to perform a Crush Execution, a powerful move that will blow away most of your opponent’s life.
And you won’t be alone. On your way you will interact with numerous characters that will open up new gameplay routes and allow you to delve even deeper into the secrets of the Abyss.
As in any good RPG, in Song from the Abyss you can level up by defeating enemies or solving puzzles. By doing so, you will receive Development Points to spend in the Skill Trees of each character, either acquiring new combat skills or improving some of the ones you already had.
When you buy two adjacent skills from a Tree, the line of expertise that joins them will also unlock, which gives you an innate bonus to the basic attributes of the character, such as Attack, Defense, Magic or Life Points. Since each character has their own skill tree, depending on how they level up, you will be able to customize them to suit your own style.
In addition to their special abilities, characters can also be customized with different pieces of equipment and consumables.
Weapons: Each character can be equipped with different weapons that possess their own attack, supernatural power, impact, and rune proficiency attributes. These stats, instead of remaining stagnant throughout the game, are upgraded and customized by investing the necessary resources into them.
Runes: Throughout the adventure you will find supernatural runes that can be inscribed on your weapons to grant them abilities and powers. Runes allow you to not only improve their attributes, but also bestow them special offensive abilities, such as draining life or increasing the powers of a given spell.
Artifacts: Artifacts are objects endowed with special powers that bestow unique abilities to their bearer, such as seeing invisible things, becoming immune to negative states or gaining life regeneration. Each character can have from two to four artifacts equipped (depending on their level and how they develop their skill tree) and some of them have a special synergy between them; depending on how you combine each other, you can achieve amazing special effects.
Consumables: In addition to the three previous categories, in Song from the Abyss there are a large number of consumable items that grant special temporary advantages, such as life vials or magical enhancers of all kinds. To simplify their use, you can assign up to four of them as quick access and consume them automatically by holding down a button.
The path of the protagonists will take you through the strange world known as the Abyss, an amalgam of places that have been absorbed by the Monolith. Its main core is Theon Alma, an imperial island built over the ruins of Solomon, a civilization that disappeared centuries ago. However, things will be even more complex than they seem. Trapped together with the others, the presence of the members of the Triumvirate has created alterations in the environment, erecting strange worlds around them. In your journey you will have to visit these locations, places as remote and varied as castles built with magic and lost technology or temples erected to gods of darkness.
In Song From the Abyss you will be able to explore a huge world, unlocking new areas as you acquire additional skills, which will also allow you to find new secrets in the locations you have already visited. To do this, the characters have great mobility, being able to run at high speeds, performing jumps, aerial dashes, and even transporting you at high speed from one place to another with supernatural abilities. All of this will require inventiveness and will test your skill.
And if that wasn’t enough, the entire island is also full of an Aerial Tramway system, which, once unlocked, will allow you to move freely from one station to another.
As you advance in the story, you will meet a multitude of characters that will have a major role in the adventure. Next, let’s see a small list of some of them:
In Song from the Abyss we have worked hard to have great concept art to use as a base to represent the characters and scenarios of the game, something that we have achieved thanks to the enormous talent of our main artist, Wen Yu Li.
We wanted to make sure that Anima Song from the Abyss had a great soundtrack, with memorable themes that fit the mix of adventure, melancholy and epicness that we were looking for the game. For this reason, we have counted on the talent of Jouni Valjakka, vocalist and guitarist of the band Whispered, who has composed the main soundtrack and all our trailers, with the minor support in some themes of Damian Sanchez, composer of our previous games.
You can listen to a preview of the music in the following link:
Here is a list of special Add-ons that you can choose for supporting the project. If you want to add them, follow these steps:
Because we want to offer the most options at the most appropriate price, shipping costs for physical rewards will be charged separately after the campaign has ended and when the game is close to shipment.
Anima Project is a three-person studio composed by Carlos B. Garcia, Sergio Almagro and Miguel Hernandez. We love games and to share our passion for everything we do with our players.
Although we are a very small team, we have extensive experience in the world of role-playing and video games, in which we have been working for more than ten years. Our works include the well-known Anima Beyond Fantasy role-playing book saga and the Anima Gate of Memories and Nameless Chronicles videogames.
However, in the development we also have had the help of three precious collaborators, Wen Yu Li, Clara Pellejer or Jouni Valjakka, without whom we would not have been able to get as far as we have.
