Building a festival paradise in the west desert of Utah!
Arcadia West…
Hey friends! My name is Sara Jade Woodhouse. I have been a teacher of theatre for over 20 years, an actor in the film, TV, and live theatre industries for much longer than that. Over the course of my life, I have met many different types of people and now I find myself at the beginning of quite possibly my greatest adventure.
I recently purchased 684+ acres of land nestled at the base of Black Mountain, halfway between Salt Lake City and Wendover, and 64 acre-feet (20,000,000 gallons) of water rights! It’s a truly magnificent location with spectacular sunsets and views that will leave you breathless. Because the location is only 65 miles from the heart of Salt Lake and yet tucked away from any kind of civilization, it’s a prime spot for the Burning Man-style festival crowd.
Arcadia West is a lifetime work in progress. This first year will see the flattening of three festival sections. The main festival grounds which will include a slightly elevated section for the easy separation of festival boundaries based on the needs of each individual festival. An elevated cordoned-off section that will be the VIP overlook area. And a general parking area for day pass festival-goers.
In addition, I will use about 17,000,000 gallons of my water right to build a lake in one of the depressions left behind by the Marblehead mining company that used to own the property. This will enable festival attendees and dry camping enthusiasts alike to recreate in the desert and have an oasis on which they can float, canoe, swim, and enjoy other watersports that a small lake would provide.
Arcadia West is an LGBT sanctuary! A place where Black Lives Matter! A place of healing, creation, and community. As such I will also be putting up a 60-foot flagpole and from that pole, I will hang the largest Pride flag I can have made, a Black Lives Matter flag, along with a Native American flag to honor the tribe that called it home.
Arcadia West is dedicated to remaining off-grid and so I will be installing EV charging stations at the western edge of the property. This will enable electric vehicles of all kinds to more easily traverse the western desert between Utah and Nevada while helping to combat global warming.
Arcadia West needs $60,000
I have spent close to $400,000 of my own money to make improvements to the land so far and to build a structure where I can live and continue to develop the many projects that will call Arcadia West home. I could use an influx of cash to complete the lake project, plant the 60-foot flagpole, and install the EV charging station. This Indiegogo campaign will help make Arcadia West a destination point for all people interested in creating change and bringing about a progressive paradise. The funds will break down as follows:
- $5000 will go towards a centrifugal pump upgrade to more efficiently transfer water from the pump house to the lake
- $30,000 will go for a lake liner to ensure that the water remains within the lake
- $20,000 will go for the purchase and installation of the flagpole and the flags that will hang from it
- $5000 will go towards the EV charging station platform
The following perks are available for contributors to the campaign:
- For a donation of $50 your name will be burned into one of the two power poles that will hold the Welcome to Arcadia West Festival Grounds archway.
- For a donation of $100 you will receive a limited edition Arcadia West pin.
- For a donation of $500 you will be invited to the private christening event for the land (date to be given via private invitation)
- For a donation of $1,000 you will have a seat at our VIP overlook area for every festival Arcadia West hosts over the next 2 years
- For a donation of $5,000 you will be able to book the entire festival area (including the lake) for any single private event you may wish to use it for (under the festival guidelines for use of the space).
Should the entire goal of this campaign not be met…rest assured that the funds will go towards whatever improvements can be done for the amount of money received and the rest will be funded out of my own pocket. Arcadia West is here to stay for as long as I remain alive. Everything that needs to be done will eventually be done…this campaign will simply enable that to happen on a much faster timetable.
Arcadia West is ready to be a force for change…
So much has happened in America to bring us to this crossroads. Arcadia West is poised to be a place where people can come to be enlightened by the world of science and exploration. A place where a person can spend the day in meditation or hiking to magnificent rocky hills, hidden valleys, and beautiful views. A place where you can leave the stress of the city behind but return to it whenever you are ready easily and with a better perception of the people around you. Arcadia West will remain free of all organized religions. Yet Arcadia West will embrace the mystical magic in us all. Arcadia West will not tolerate hate of any kind! Arcadia West will be a sanctuary for fact and a proponent of truth. Your contributions will make all of this possible.
Lastly…Arcadia West is a COVID-free zone! In order to participate in any of the aforementioned activities that will call Arcadia West home…you WILL NEED TO SHOW YOUR VACCINATION CARD! NO EXCEPTIONS! If this causes you to pause…then I would advise you not to contribute. No hard feelings. 🙂
There are many ways to contribute…
Just because you may not be able to engage on a financial level that does not mean that you can’t contribute to the campaign. Here are some ways in which you can help:
- Share this campaign with your friends, family, neighbors, work colleagues, etc. Getting the word out is in many ways even more important than money donations.
- Please use the Indiegogo share tools when you can. It makes contributing to the campaign easier for those who may not be familiar with how Indiegogo works.
- Talk about Arcadia West often. Tell your friends about it, let people you know who might be interested in putting on a festival, or who might be interested in contributing work skills, or people who just might be interested in coming out and learning more. Arcadia West is as much about what it can do for people as it is about what goes on there.
