We use 90% natural filter materials 

Sphagnum Moss, has an innate ability to trap particulate matter in its structure. This layer captures pollen and other allergens such as pet dander.

Waste Coconut husks are re-purposed into filtration fibre. This dense mesh targets smaller particles and dirt.

The Matrix filter is a HEPA like material but with the plastics, metals and glues removed so it has 98% less plastic than any other HEPA filter.

How To Replace The Filters

How Long Do The Filters Last?

On average the moss or activated carbon and coconut will need replacing once a year and the finer HEPA like Matrix Filter lasts around 3 months. 

If you use Briiv Pro with the app, you can get more accurate information on filter use and when to change them based on your actual use. So, you don’t have to worry about remembering when you last changed them.   

Filter Options

We are using a Yorkshire Sphagnum moss that grows in most gardens around the world, ours is locally sourced and can be washed and dried in Briiv Pro for reuse, but you can also pick your own garden moss and allow it to dry in briiv so you can grow your own filter. At the end of its life it can be composted at home, we are the only filter in the world that lets you do this.

Briiv Pro has been designed to pack a punch in the most efficient way. The bonus you get for helping the environment is one of the most effective money-saving air filters around. 

How The System Works

You can group one Briiv Primary to as many Briiv Secondaries as you like. 

This allows you to create zones in your home or office of connected Briiv’s which are controlled by your Briiv Primary.

All of your Briiv Secondaries will mirror everything your Briiv Primary does. This is perfect for a larger room/ open plan office or adjoining rooms on a single floor of a house.

With unlimited scalability you can add additional Briiv Primaries into the mix to create multiple zones that cover your entire home.

How Efficient Is Briiv Pro?

Briiv will improve the air quality in a 9m² (96ft²) living space in just 11 minutes or a 16m² (172ft²) space in 21 minutes. 

For a larger space, link a Briiv Pro Secondary for optimum results. 

Below are some real world tests carried out in a larger, heavily polluted room, tracking the PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations. Both have a control test which had no air cleaning (the grey line) and with a Briiv Pro running (yellow and green lines) over a 2 hour period.

The yellow and green lines are with Briiv Pro active and show a significant reduction in dangerous particles compared to the control test. 

Development And Testing

In total we have spent two years working on this next version of Briiv, building on the original design and incorporating the latest technology in the air sensor market. The full filter was modelled and tested at every stage using the ISO 29463-5:2011 standard as a basis for testing and evaluating with sensitive air monitors.

Smoke Testing

Watch how Briiv Pro clears the air! We created this smoke test, using an “off the shelf” smoke pellet that releases approximately 18 cubic meters of smoke to fully saturate the environment. Briiv is then turned on remotely to clear the air in the tank and shows the complete removal of the smoke after 3 and a half minutes

The graph above show the reduction in a 216 litre chamber over 4 mins with an initial highly unsafe volume of PM2.5 fine particulate. The number of particles quickly reduced to safe levels in 3 minutes and to zero in 4 minutes. 

We also conducted multiple industry standard tests. The direct flow testing method measures the reduction of particulate in one pass, under a simulated environment with a constant supply of test particulate entering the device over a set period of time.

Our plan for delivery. We’ve been through this process before and have an established network for production and delivery.

We have also worked in some “things going wrong time” into this schedule, to account for any delays there may be. But we have a very advanced working sample of Briiv Pro and are ready for manufacturing the tooling, the electronics have been designed and we have working firmware, the app still needs some functions adding but we have a working and tested system for that to operate on.

The Problem With Current Filters

15,000,000 air filters were purchased in 2019 and the actual filters needs to be replaced every 6-8 months.

There is a better way. Briiv Pro is an innovative, natural product designed to be just as effective at cleaning the air you breathe, with a much lower environmental impact.

Rethinking Plastic

Consumer electronics are all made from oil based plastics that pollute the Earth for future generations. 

We believe this is fundamentally wrong and with your help, we intend to change this.

Instead of opting for oil-based plastics, Briiv uses a new bio-plastic derived from rice husks which is a waste by product from agricultural crops. This crop captures carbon in the process and locks it into the product.

We use less plastics than any other filter on the market, switching them for materials that biodegrade or can be recycled infinitely, such as glass.    

Only the electrical components and the Nano Matrix Filter are left that we have not been able to switch. We are working constantly to replace these in the future with more sustainable alternatives when technology allows us to do so in a safe way.   

Our Commitment To Circular Design

Having spent many years in the design industry, we have seen hundreds of products marketed as “sustainable” that in reality, usually due to economic decisions, fall very short of the promises they claim. 

We were fed up with sustainability being treated as an afterthought in design. 

So, our commitment is to the circular design process. Simply put, this is where products are designed with the end of the product’s life in mind. This approach removes a lot of conventional material options. 

Our approach has changed over the years where we used to put biodegradability above all else, but since most countries are still incinerating most recyclable or biodegradable waste we wanted to work harder and become more circular in our approach.  

So what dose that mean?

Send back Briiv to us when you don’t want it anymore and we will turn it into a new Briiv, so it can continue its life somewhere else. This is our commitment to kickstarting a more circular practice with consumer electronics. 

Removing Designed Obsolescence

Because we want to completely remove planned obsolescence, we have made Briiv in a way that it can be dismantled and serviced or any parts that age or break accidentally over time can be repaired with ease. So, you can keep your Briiv running far into the future.

By making Briiv here in the UK we can oversee every component that goes into each unit and have much stricter quality control. As we build each one in house, we don’t have to travel to factories and suppliers to perform quality inspections on the final product.
