We are all looking for the perfect bag.

We found our selves always having to choose between function and looks. We often ended up with different bags for our daily occasions; a backpack on the bike to work, a nice laptop case for the meetings and a third bag for dinner. So we created Bukvy.

Bukvy creates multi-functional bags and accessories with timeless design and high quality materials. All items are ethically made by sustainable materials in our small studio outside of Porto, Portugal. 

The offer

We have a direct-to-consumer approach. It means that you get what you pay for, a great bag without the usual market mark ups which often is x 8-12. The campaign is inviting you to join the order-process earlier than with a usual purchase. We, toghether, make a total order to our studio and in return for your patiance you get a great discount. In these times it is very valuable for us to share part of the minimum ordercost, remain our order continuity and keep supporting our studio in Porto. 

Except for the reduced pricing you will also get continuous updates and insight in the production process and we of course answer all your questions regarding production – as always.

Our Story

We are two founders, Elena Ekström and Joanna Bark. Stockholm based and best friends since the age of six. We believe it is possible to change the way we consume, to make better choices and use the same items a lot more times. We are proud about our way and that we never compromise. This means making  as little impact as possible – including people, animals and environment.

Mass-production is a big issue. We buy too many things that lasts for too short time. Un-sold items are thrown in landfill and non-degradable items filled with chemicals stays in the land for a long time. People get damaged in the production process by unfair work conditions, low wages, bad or none safety equipment and without rights. And the industry just keeps on producing more and more items. But there is a difference between mass production and craftsmanship.

Sustainability & Ethics

Leather

All items will be made in our carefully selected studio in Portugal by beautiful, Europe sourced organic leather (Eco nappa/grainy bovine leather) and suede. The leather is tanned entirely without dangerous chemicals and will get a beautiful patina over time.

Cork Skin

The industry of our Cork Skin is a protection against the climate change. The oak trees reduces the risk of fire and desertification and thanks to the long life of an oak tree a lot of Co2 is deposited in the woods. It is also a natural, organic, renewable and biodegradable material and 100% recyclable.

Production schedule

Bukvy is already up and running and we will produce the items together with our studio who we have been working with for many years.

• August: Campaign launch and funding
• September: Leather tanning and ordering of all details (zippers etc.)
• October: Leather tanning and bag production
• November: Bag production 
• December: Inspection of all bags and shipping

Risks & Challanges

The risks and challenges are the same as the ones we are facing every day and are used to handling:

• Delays in production. If delays occurs, we will of course communicate this clearly with you. 
• Shipping problems. We use DHL to get the bags, first to us and then you. You will be able to trace your item when it is shipped from us to know exactly where it is and when the estimated delivery time is planned.
• Covid19. Until today our studio has not closed down at any time. If that would be neccessary this autumn and lead to delays occurs we will be quick to inform you. 

The tannery is ready to start and we look forward to delivering all items just in time for Christmas so please consider backing us!
