A Note From the Director

Howdy from West Texas! My name is Billy “Bloody Bill” Pon. I am a Horror Filmmaker and Hauntrepreneur in Texas. I got my start working for a local CBS affiliate TV station and was quickly promoted to Creative Services Director where I produced local commercials and news promotions daily for over a decade. This was ideal “hands on” learning that prepared me for filmmaking. In 2007 I entered a fake trailer contest for Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s “Grindhouse” film. That fake trailer titled “Circus of the Dead” gave me the confidence to finally throw my hat into the film world. In 2009 I made the short film “Doll Boy” which was accepted into dozens of film festivals and won numerous Best Feature awards. Next up was my first feature film “Circus of the Dead” which premiered at the world’s largest horror convention, Texas Frightmare Weekend, to two standing-room-only rooms on back-to back-nights. We had a cult horror hit on our hands. At last count COTD has screened to rabid horror fans all over the world and is now a favorite on many VOD platforms.

Circus of the Dead 2 “needs to happen” as well as “has to happen” for many reasons. Since filming the first movie 10 years ago we have lost many loved ones that worked both in front of and behind the camera. This movie is for them; to let them know we miss and love them. One of the ones we lost was co-creator and co-writer Donzell Lee Ankrum II. We were lifelong best friends and were equally enamored by films as children. As we entered the VHS revolution in the early 80’s, Lee and I would watch every horror film we could rent. We talked about the movies, but mostly we talked about what we would do differently if we made that film. We have designed haunted houses together since we were in elementary school, and I still run one to this day. Papa Corn and all the clowns for that matter are parts of Lee and myself. Both the good and bad in us. Lee passed away this past Spring. I feel like part of me is missing. I really believe he’s speaking to me creatively and wants me to finish what we started with a fake Circus of the Dead trailer in 2007. I will finish our Odyssey and I will make him proud. This film will be dedicated to him.
