Loose to stiff with the flip of a switch.

Story

Hi Indiegogo! It’s good to be back.

Ever since our first project in 2017 we’ve been working on the next big thing. And we’re beyond excited to finally share it with you

We love to travel light. But we also love the creative freedom a tripod offers. Steady shots, long exposures, self timers… This seemingly impossible combination was the spark that gave birth to the Conda strap™.

The Conda strap™ is the love-child between a camera strap and a tripod

In it’s loose state the Conda strap™ is flexible like a normal strap, having all the qualities you would expect from a great camera strap ( and more, but let’s talk about that later ). When the lever is engaged the strap stiffens, opening up a world of possibilities.

There is literally no end to where or how you can use the Conda strap™. Use it in Tripod mode or wrap it around a tree, pole or fence and get steady shots anywhere.

This might just be the Vloggers best friend. The Conda strap™ transforms into the ultimate selfie sticks, video rig or tripod for any surface. Do everything, without having to bring anything.

Switching between different carrying modes with ease is key for a great camera strap. We’ve integrated a bunch of smart features to ensure that you can hop between neck, sling and shoulder mode in no time.

Adjusting the length is simple and done in no time.

The Conda strap™ comes in two different versions, Standard and Plus. The Plus version is recommended for heavier cameras and the Standard version is suitable for lighter cameras such as compacts, mirrorless and lighter DSLR’s.

Not only did we set out to create a whole new category of camera equipment. We made damn sure we made the best camera strap. Period.

Three levels of stiffness

The patent pending technology behind the Conda strap™ allows the lever to be operated between three different states. ‘Loose‘ is just what it sounds like, loose like a normal camera strap. The ‘Semi‘ state allows you to manually shape the strap into the desired configuration. And once you got the framing in place, switch the lever to ‘Stiff‘ and the strap locks into position.

Separable

The quick release enables you to wrap the Conda strap™ around a pole, tree or whatever you can think of. Simply press the two safety clasps and split the housing in two. Pretty damn cool.

Legendary length adjustment

Probably the fastest length adjustment you’ve ever seen. Slide down the locking wedge, slide the strap to the desired length and lock it in place by sliding the locking wedge back into place. Makes it easy to switch between neck or sling style when you’re on the go.

Dampened and padded for extreme comfort

The Conda strap™ is dampened which means it smooths out the forces generated from walking with your camera, giving you a more comfy ride. Game changer.

Smooth or grippy

The Smooth side has a low friction surface ideal when using the strap in sling mode and the grippy side keeps the strap in place when hanging the camera over the shoulder.

Tool-less installation

Bye bye, hex keys (In case you haven’t lost them already). Should you need to tighten the camera screw more than your fingers can handle, simply use a coin. The Conda Strap™ has a female 1/4-20 thread at the bottom so you can attach it to rigs, extra plates etc.

Relentless engineering

We take safety serious and the Conda strap™ is designed for loads up to 75 kg (165 lbs). We know that cheaping out on materials never pays off. You won’t find anything else than stainless steel or anodized 6061 aluminium in the metal components and the housing is made from super strong fiber filled Nylon. The joints are made from a custom manufactured polymer with unique properties that gives the Conda strap™ it’s locking power and stiffness.

Adjustable tension

Should you ever need to adjust the holding strength, we got you covered. The tension mechanism is neatly hidden inside the neck strap in case you need it.

Simply twist the end caps if you ever need to adjust the holding power

The Conda strap™ will be available in three different color combinations, BlackTitanium and Ruby

Black on Black. The matte logo reflects beautifully in contrast to the dark, shimmering strap.

The Titanium gray is discreet but has a bit more contrast between the dark logo and the sleeve compared to the black version.

The Ruby red is a radiant option featuring a contrasting logo and a dark, red sleeve.

The final production version swimming in a sea of it’s predecessors

It’s been a long journey to get to where we are today. The idea behind the Conda strap™ emerged when we asked some of our customers back in 2017 what problems they faced when they are out shooting. There was one reply in particular that caught our attention,

“I really like my tripod, but I hate bringing my tripod.”

The task seemed daunting at first. But after boiling down the problem to the most essential component we had our mission set,

“Allow the user to point the camera in any direction, without bringing anything else than the camera itself.”

The strap seemed like the perfect candidate to improve upon and we immediately got to work. 3 years in and more than 175 prototypes later we’re happy to say we finally solved the problem.

The most important injection molds and jigs have already been produced in order to minimize risk and confirm the most essential features

Jonas and Hampus Lundin

Frii Designs was founded from the vision of making life easier for photographers. We’re based in Stockholm, Sweden and we’re an incredibly product focused team that lives and breathes to produce the best possible solutions to the most painful problems.

Frii was founded by Jonas Lundin in 2017, a photographer and mechanical engineer specialized in industrial design from Lund university. Together with his brother Hampus Lundin, a biomedical engineer from Linköping university devoted to automation and production, they form Frii Designs. The siblings practically grew up in the family garage building bikes, 3D-printers and camera equipment and have over the years developed a great sense for design and ability to co-operate.

Why Crowdfunding?

We wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for Crowdfunding. The day the TriLens™ was funded back in 2017 our company was born. It was an incredibly humbling experience to be trusted with that level of responsibility and we managed to deliver an amazing product to every single one of our backers. The Conda strap project is way past the high risk hurdles and all that’s left is placing the order for the mass production tooling, and that’s where You come in.

This project wouldn’t have been possible without the help from,

Tommy Süld, Isabel Fjelking, Marcus Jigeman, Almi Stockholm & the Anagada crew.

Risks and challenges

This is not our first time on Indiegogo. We’ve learned a lot from our last campaign and we’re proud to say that we delivered what we promised to every single one of our backers. Starting a company from the ground up is exciting, but there are a lot of things we’re happy that we wont have to do all over again. Finding suppliers, getting an office space, building a workshop, hiring people and setting up all the shipping and IT systems. The basics have already been taken care of so we can focus 100% on delivering the best possible product to our backers. Our new suppliers have delivered the samples on time and in accordance to our specifications. But our experience has taught us that unexpected things can happen. Machines can break down and molds can have to be adjusted. We have taken small hiccups into consideration when creating our production plan but if something major were to happen, things can get delayed. We have backed several crowdfunded projects and we know how important transparency is and how much of an asset the backer updates are. Whatever happens, good or bad, we will disclose the progress to our backers in our updates. Shipping globally is always a large endeavor. There are a lot of things out of our control that can delay the delivery of your rewards. But we’ve done this daily for the past three years and have learned a lot! Since our last campaign we got a new shipping provider and increased traceability for all of our shipments.

Environmental commitments

Long-lasting design

The Conda strap is easily serviceable, which means that you can adjust it’s main functions and increase the life span of the product without the need for any tools. We made a promise to ourselves to never charge the customer for spare parts because we know how costly it is, both monetary and planetary, to ship out replacement parts. By designing the Conda strap to truly last we created a product where everybody wins, including the planet.

Reusability and recyclability

We’ve been hard at work to minimize the amount of packaging needed and have come up with a great solution that will keep both volume and unnecessary weight to an absolute minimum. Not only will this make a huge impact on transportation emissions but will also make sure that there will be less material ending up on a landfill once the product has been delivered to the customer. Basically we’re maximizing the amount of value that is being sent and minimizing any unnecessary packaging material that will be discarded upon arrival anyway.

Sustainable materials

Our main plastics supplier is ISO 9001 certified and we’ve made sure that all of our injection molded plastics are utilized to 100%. Our suppliers have set up our production lines so that any failed parts, runners and waste are recycled back into the system and made into new parts for the Conda strap.

Environmentally friendly factories

In order to keep transportation and emissions to a minimum we always aspire to keep our suppliers as close as possible. Our key suppliers are just a few kilometres away from our HQ and if we have goods that needs to be transported for longer distances we always opt for train over air when possible.

Sustainable Distribution

For this campaign we’ve incorporated a new shipping strategy where the packages are sent in bulk from our HQ in Sweden to a distribution center in Germany. This minimize the risk for lost packages and will reduce the emissions generated in the first part of the journey by more than 25%. Our philosophy have always been to accomplish more with less stuff. The Conda strap incorporates a lot of functions that enables the user to replace both the tripod and backpack and makes travelling easier and the luggage a lot lighter.
