ETT HJÄRTA ÄR ALLTID RÖTT

Nu ska vi göra en dokumentärfilm om ett av Sveriges, genom tiderna, främsta band – IMPERIET

Men vi behöver din hjälp för att projektet ska bli verklighet! Vi utvecklar filmen med stöd från SVT för att göra en entimmesversion för dem men det finns så mycket att berätta och vi vill nå längre! Vi vill göra en långfilmsversion för biograf och för visning på nätet. Det är dyrt att göra den här typen av filmer inte minst för att vi vill att den ska vara full av arkiv som vi kommer behöva köpa loss och därför vänder vi oss till er på Kickstarter. Vi skulle verkligen uppskatta om alla ni som gillar IMPERIET eller bara gillar dokumentärfilm, ville vara med och bidra. Kanske känner du någon som skulle vara intresserad av den här filmen? Då har du en perfekt julklapp. Och vi lovar – alla ni som backar projektet kommer inte gå lottlösa!

Många har velat göra film om IMPERIET men hittills har det aldrig blivit något. Så vad är det som gör att det kommer fungera nu? Jo, alla nu levande medlemmar i IMPERIET står bakom projektet och kommer att medverka i filmen. Genom åren har IMPERIETS medlemmar varit ytterst sparsamma med intervjuer därför kommer den här filmen bli helt unik i och med att filmen är fullt sanktionerad av gruppen. Vi har även tillgång till en hel massa privat arkiv som ingen tidigare kommit över.

Det här blir inte bara en film om ett band, det är också en film om åttiotalet, om politiskt engagemang och om det personliga priset för att nå toppen som Sveriges största band. Åttiotalet var en tid då musikindustrin var en guldgruva men de som skapade musiken var oftast inte de som tjänade pengarna. Även i detta fall försvann det mesta av pengarna någon annanstans så filmen blir också en bild av hur musikindustrin behandlar sina kreatörer.

Vi har börjat filmat och har redan nu kommit en bra bit på vägen.

Vi hoppas att filmen kommer att ha premiär under 2022

Vi som ligger bakom projektet:

Balsam Hellström är regissör och har jobbat i många år med film och tv. Balsam ligger bakom en hel massa musikprogram bl.a. för SVT och har gjort filmer med bl.a. Thåström, Refused och Teddybears och har en djup förankring i den svenska musikindustrin. Balsam har i många år samarbetat med Joakim Thåström och ligger bakom live DVD:n SOM JORDGUBBARNA SMAKADE… och en mängd andra produktioner med Joakim.

Hjalmar Palmgren är filmens producent och har också jobbat i många år med dokumentärfilm och har bl.a. varit inblandad i Malik Bendjellouls SEARCHING FOR SUGAR MAN. Hjalmar producerar också en kommande film om Göteborgsbandet UNION CARBIDE PRODUCTIONS.

Risks & Challenges

Med film finns det alltid en risk att vi inte får ihop tillräckligt med pengar för att genomföra projektet men eftersom vi har alla i bandet med oss tror vi den risken är liten.

Det vi får in om vi når Kickstartermålet kommer räcka till en kortare film men vi vill göra en långfilm och därför hoppas vi nå längre än målet. Vi vill ha med andra finansiärer också men Imperiet är en milstolpe i svensk musikhistoria och SVT har redan gått in med pengar till projektutveckling så vi känner oss rätt säkra på att vi kommer lyckas göra en fin film.

En annan risk är så klart att vi gör en dålig film och alla vet att det hänt förut men mot det finns ingen annan garanti än vår långa erfarenhet och ett fantastiskt ämne.

We will make a documentary about one of Sweden’s, through the ages, biggest bands – IMPERIET.

However, we need your help to realize this project! We are in development with support from SVT (Swedish public service broadcaster) to make a one-hour version, but there is so much more to tell, and we want to go further! We want to make a feature version for cinema and online viewing. It is expensive to make this type of film, not least because we want it to be full of archive material that we will need to buy, and therefore we turn to you on Kickstarter. We would appreciate it if you that like IMPERIET or just like documentaries wanted to join and contribute. Maybe you know someone who would be interested in this movie? Then you have a perfect Christmas gift. And we promise – all of you who back the project will not be without reward!

Many filmmakers wanted to make a film about IMPERIET, but so far, it never happened. So why do we think we will succeed? Well, all now living members of IMPERIET are behind the project and will participate in the film. Over the years, the members of IMPERIET have been extremely frugal with interviews. Therefore this film will be unique in that the group fully sanctions the film. We also have access to a whole lot of private archives that no one has come across before.

This documentary will not only be a film about a band, but it is also a film about the eighties, political commitment, and the personal prize for reaching the top as Sweden’s biggest band. The eighties were when the music industry was a goldmine, but those who created the music were usually not the ones who made money. Even in this case, most of the money disappeared elsewhere, so the film also depicts how the music industry treats its creators.

We started shooting and have already come a long way, and we hope that the film will premiere in 2022.

The people behind the project:

Balsam Hellström, the director, has worked for many years with film and television. Balsam is behind many music programs for SVT, and has made films with i.a. Thåström, Refused, and Teddybears and is deeply rooted in the Swedish music industry. Balsam has for many years collaborated with Thåström and is behind the live DVD LIKE THE STRAWBERRIES TASTED … and several other productions with Thåström.

Hjalmar Palmgren is the producer and has worked for many years with documentaries. Among other things, he has been involved in Malik Bendjelloul’s SEARCHING FOR SUGAR MAN. Hjalmar is also producing an upcoming film about the Gothenburg band UNION CARBIDE PRODUCTIONS.

The cinematographer Charlie Drevstam has a long line of films behind him and has also shot many commercials. Charlie is also known as a prominent still photographer.

Risks and challenges

With film, there is always a risk that we do not get enough money to carry out the project, but since we have everyone in the band with us, we think that risk is small. What we get if we reach the Kickstarter goal will be enough for a shorter film, but we want to make a feature film, and therefore we hope to go beyond the goal. We want to include other financiers as well. As Imperiet is a milestone in Swedish music history and SVT has already invested money in project development, we feel reasonably confident that we will make a fine film. Another risk is, of course, that we make a terrible film. There is no other guarantee than our long experience and a fantastic subject.
