We’re Tyler and CJ, co-founders of Fulcrum, and childhood best friends (True story! We met in middle school in 2010. Time flies, huh!?). We’ve always been the type of people who constantly ask “how does this work?” and “how can we make it better?” Known for being constructively destructive, we’ve spent our lives tearing things apart to understand them and improve on existing ideas. This curiosity and drive to innovate naturally led us to create the X1.

The idea for the X1 came up in late 2022. I (CJ) had recently started collecting watches, and as we discussed the growing market of smartwatches, I told Tyler I wasn’t interested in buying a new one. My watch collection was growing, and I didn’t want to replace timepieces I already loved. That’s when the idea hit—what if we could make any watch smart, without sacrificing its style? The X1 was born. We immediately started sketching ideas on napkins and began developing the first prototype in our spare time.

Initially, we designed a longer version of the X1 that would mount underneath the links and case of a watch. By May of 2023, we had our first working prototype. After demonstrating it to potential customers and investors, we quickly realized that our original form factor was too bulky and uncomfortable. So, we went back to the drawing board and created a more streamlined version that attaches just underneath the watch case, making it far more comfortable while still delivering the smart functionality we envisioned.

Since then, we’ve been refining the design and working with prototyping and manufacturing partners to perfect our toolset and bring the X1 to life. Now, with a new design in hand, we’re ready to take the next step. We’ve found a trusted early-stage manufacturer, but we need your support to fund the next phase of development and move into production.

We’re excited to share that the X1 is progressing steadily! Currently, we are in the prototyping phase, refining the design and functionality of our device. We’ve recently identified an experienced manufacturer who will help us bring our current prototype to its final form, produce the next batch of working prototypes, and prepare for large-scale production. Once our campaign is successfully funded, we plan to kick off this next phase immediately, with the goal of starting deliveries by October 2025.
