Writer and Director : Roger Yawson.
Roger Yawson is a writer and an actor. Born in Vicenza Italy to Ghanaian parents. Roger moved to Ghana at age 7 before relocating to the US at age 15. Roger is very familiar with the struggles immigrants face in the US and as a story that’s based on real life events, this film will captivate audiences from all backgrounds. Why? Because America is a melting pot of cultures. In this climate, with immigration being a hot topic, we will dive into the lives of these individuals. Whether republican or democrat, audiences will connect to what it means to be human, period! Roger has produced shorts such as Walls which won him the Special Jury Award at World Fest Houston 2024. That same film also won him Best Actor at the 2024 Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival. Best Actor at the DMV International Film Festival in Washington, DC.

Mena Guy is a Filipina American award-winning filmmaker skilled in directing, producing, cinematography, and editing, based in New York. She is passionate about producing projects that explore the depth and complexity of the human experience, focusing on emotionally driven narratives that connect with audiences on a personal level.
Mena has collaborated with renowned brands such as Loudwire Magazine, XXL Magazine, Viacom, and others, blending diverse storytelling techniques into her work. With a deep appreciation for the creative process, she thrives on turning concepts into impactful visual narratives that shed light on personal growth, relationships, and untold stories.
She directed and produced the feature film The Undead with Bourke Floyd and has also created several award-winning short films. Mena worked as the cinematographer for the New York section of Tale of the Fox, a documentary about KISS’s Eric Carr, where she collaborated with bands like Korn and Iron Maiden. As an Asian female filmmaker, she aims to give minorities and women a voice through visual storytelling, emphasizing authentic representation and emotional resonance.

Ketak Dhiman, an experienced Indian American cinematographer, is based in both NYC and India allowing him to work on projects across the globe. He is Punjabi and immigrated to the US as a teenager. With a remarkable 12 years of experience in various genres, Ketak has honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of visual storytelling. His impressive portfolio includes 10 feature films, documentary features, over 30 shorts and numerous music videos. His love for the arts and camera moved him to study video and lighting at the CUNY New York City of Technology. His work on the film Broken Birds won him the Best Cinematography at the Indie Film Awards.
THE CAST
Cadienne Obeng as Akos. Akos is what we mean when we say a strong woman. A young mother of two living with her husband on an expired visa in the US. She is resilient and would go to any heights to ensure a better future for her family. She navigates her personal and family life while battling the legal system of the United States to acquire residency and ultimately get her 7 year old son into the US.
Cadienne Obeng is an actress and storyteller whose multicultural heritage profoundly influences her work. Born to Jamaican and Ghanaian parents, she grew up amidst a rich tapestry of accents and languages, discovering early on that language was a powerful form of self-expression. Her passion for storytelling began in childhood through journaling and poetry writing. At Syracuse University, she wrote her first scripted series. Since then, Cadienne has appeared on platforms like Apple TV and NBC captivating audiences with her transformations. She is dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices that inspire meaningful dialogue and connection.
Roger Yawson as Nathan. Nathan, a young man who entered the US as a visitor with his wife. He’s an orphan who navigated through life on his own up until marrying Akos. He carries a lot of emotional wounds from his past that causes him to make poor choices that affects his household though he’s a good father.
Roger Yawson has appeared on numerous films and TV shows including Imperium starring Daniel Radcliffe, Dear Edward on Apple TV+ and New Amsterdam on NBC. Roger won 2 Best Actor Awards for his role in Walls, a short film he produced and starred in.

Asif Khan as Mr. Ahkbar. Mr Ahkbar owns a restaurant that Akos finds herself working at.
Asif Khan was born in Karachi, Pakistan in 1978. Although his college studies focused on electronics and computer technology, he took every opportunity he could to indulge his love of the arts, writing songs and poetry and even authoring and starring in a play of his own. He emigrated to the United States in 1998 and settled in Orlando, FL where he began acting in commercials and modeling for print advertisements a few years later. In 2006 he felt he found his calling on a film set and decided to pursue acting regularly from then on. Asif lives in North Carolina with his wife and three young children.
Darlyn Adu as Debra. Debra is the younger sister of Akos who is also living in the US illegally. She betrays her sister in a very vile way.
Daryln Adu is a graduate from the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. She was born in West Africa, Ghana. With over 18 years of experience as an actor, Darlyn has been involved in films such as Black Lady Goddess which was an official selection in the New Orleans Film Festival, The Pan African Film Festival and the African Film Festival in NYC. Darlyn became a Co-Host on Ghana’s national network, TV3 on the daytime show The Ladies Circle. Darlyn has made a name for herself and worked with some of Ghana’s top production companies. Her recent work, Eno, is currently on Showmax with high ratings.
Akofa Edjeani as Akos’ mom. Akos’ mom is her support system taking care of Akos’ 7 year old son in Ghana.
Miss Akofa is one of Ghana’s most respected actors! With a career spanning over 30 years, Miss Akofa has done it all and won numerous awards. She’s been a judge on Ghana’s hit talent show on TV3. We’re blessed to have witness Miss Akofa’s grace and talent on this film.

Charlie – Black American. Akos’ restaurant manager who acts as her confidant. He’s secretly in love with Akos.
Mr. Sun – Asian. Immigration lawyer.
There are so many other roles to be cast featuring people of all background. Latinos, Philippinos, white, black and everything in between. This film will truly portray what it means to be American. From behind the scene to on camera, we are a country of beautiful cultures!

Your contribution will greatly help for expenses from Pre Production to Post Production. We really want to take care of our people. From cast to crew / equipments and it isn’t cheap. We need housing, travel and food. We’re shooting on a red camera. Our goal is to express this heartfelt journey of this immigrant woman in a beautiful cinematic way. We want to give a quality product, it’s costly and this why we need your help and asking this much.

This is THE immigrant story! Everybody has an immigrant family member who has gone through this legal journey and with immigration being a hot topic now, everyone and their relatives will relate and feel this character’s journey.
All the funds we raise are going towards the project even if we don’t reach our goal.
We’ve been able to shoot the scenes in Ghana and we now need your help to complete filming in the States which is the main part of the film.
