The reason that thermally insulated mugs are so good at retaining heat is that they exploit thermally insulating properties of air. We thought ‘what if you could do that for a collapsible mug?’

And so we developed a design accommodates ‘air’ gaps in the lid and on the sides to offer insulation for the beverage when it is in it’s expanded form factor, which makes it up to 4X more heat retentive than other collapsible mugs.

There are 9 height options, so it fits into any barista coffee machine, or other drinks dispenser!

This is done by simply holding the ring that is to be collapsed to, and then using the same method as opening/closing the product, to move to the desired height level.

We worked really (really) hard to make sure that all common sizes at coffee shops were accommodated for, and yet can still easily fit into a pocket for convenience.

From our user research we found that for the majority of people and occasions, it’s not often that above Venti / 600ml / 20 oz is needed, hence we aimed and designed for that. 

It was important to us from the start of development, that we needed to ‘defeat the sleeve’, almost as a mantra. They are a hassle to assemble and potentially lose, and really do not offer much in terms of cooling for holding (little/no air gap).

They also limit the area that you can hold the product, usually to about 4cm/1.5 inches. And from our experience of ergonomics, not many people have palms that are 4 cm /1.5 inches long. Well.. maybe babies, but they don’t drink much coffee.

To make sure that hug is much better to open/close than a typical disposable mug, the main point of interaction is the mouthpiece.

And so intuitive ergonomic curves accommodate a thumb/finger in the two motions of both opening and closing. This sleek and chic design solution maximizes the grip area, and makes for a superior user experience.

When looking at other comparable collapsible mugs, what stood out to us is that they are naturally very flimsy due to mainly being made up of a soft silicone body.

Not only does it mean that you would be susceptible to accidentally squeeze it with your beverage going all over your lovely visage, but that when it is collapsed and compressed in your bag, the contents may spill onto your valuables = not fun.

By some estimates there are around 264 Billion non-biodegradable cups thrown away each year! Of which 99.75% are not recycled… = big problem.

 “Why are they non biodegradable?”

Because they have a plastic/Polyurethane liner.

 “Okay sounds bad, so why don’t people just use reusable mugs or cups?”

The main feature of disposable cups that makes them attractive is that they are so convenient, or more to the point, it’s because reusable cups/mugs are so inconvenient.

However like for wallets and phones, most of us can accommodate smaller objects in pockets or the sides of bags.

So we made that the goal.. a collapsible mug that has a large capacity.. that’s pocket friendly.. and then other cool features.

To compound on the convenience factor, an essential part of this is creating a way to quickly ‘draw’ your mug, and then collapse it when you are done. Hence we spent a lot of energy making sure it is one of, if not the fastest on the market.

 Both the lid section and the silicone inner liner have a Silver Ion (Ag) anti microbial agent additive, making it perfect for cleaning on the go.

The inner silicone is also easily removable and everything is dishwasher safe.

And if you want a deeper clean to get out any stubborn residues, the mouth plug is easily removable.

As the inner silicone is protected by the outer shell when in its collapsed form, it means that there isn’t any compressing when on the move. 

We wanted to go one further than the standardized silicone quality of FDA and LFGB. to banish those plasticky tastes once and for all!

And so we have sourced and tested Platinum Cured Medical Grade Silicone to use for production.

Through working with our supply chain, we have also made sure we are using the toughest grade/type of silicone that is on the market. 

There has been extensive testing on the prototypes that have been made to make sure that all angles in respect to quality for the final product have been accounted for.

The adjustable height + all encompassing insulation make it perfect for reheating when needed.
