HUNU+ features a unique new folding system that allows a 16oz cup to easily fold into a 3 cm disk without compromising on the sturdiness of the cup. 

 

Every time you use your own cup one less piece of plastic goes to landfill. HUNU+ is a reusable cup that you will not only love using but also one that will actually be with you when you need it!

Our goal at HUNU is to design reusable products that fit into your life and HUNU+ does just that by slipping away easily into a pocket or bag after use.

 

We founded HUNU because we realized that we could do better. We started looking around and learning about how much the little bit of daily waste we use add up. A fact that really shocked us was that 165 million coffee cups end up in landfill every year and less than 1% are ever recycled due to the plastic lining.

We went looking around for a good reusable alternative but couldn’t find one that fitted into our lifestyle and that was convenient and compact enough to be with us whenever we actually wanted to use it!

In the past year we have discovered that a lot of people are looking for the same thing we are. Stylish, well designed products that are convenient and make it easy to move towards a zero waste lifestyle.

OUR MATERIALS

SILICONE

When designing the HUNU cup we had a few non negotiable requirements. It had to be compact enough to comfortably carry around in a pocket all day. It had to be sturdy enough to safely hold a hot drink. It had to be made using the highest quality food grade materials. It had to look good and be light and durable. None of this changed when we started the design work for HUNU+

Silicone is a highly durable, non toxic material that can withstand extreme temperatures and doesn’t leech toxic chemicals. It is very easy to clean and flexible enough to fold down easily but strong enough to form a sturdy, safe cup when unfolded.

The silicone we use is both LFGB and FDA certified meaning it meets the highest level of both USA and European certification.

PLASTIC

When we brought out our original HUNU cup we used a bamboo composite for the lid (a mixture of resin and bamboo fibre). However our goal is to always be learning and over the course of last year we learned more and more about recyclable plastic and what a stable and safe material it is as well as how widely it can be recycled. We have since chosen to use a BPA and BPS free polypropylene for our new lids. While there are many new materials coming onto the market and we will always looking for ways we could improve, right now not many of the plant based plastics are durable enough or easily recycled enough to compete with polypropylene.

 

CLEANING YOUR CUP

Silicone is very non porous meaning that it is incredibly easy to clean. If you are out and about during the day a simple rinse out with water or even a wipe with a napkin will often be enough. At the end of the day using some dish soap in the sink or taking the lid and band off and popping everything in the dishwasher works great.

The HUNU cup is fully dishwasher safe!

OUR DESIGN PROCESS

When designing our first HUNU cup we started out with one very clear thought. Single use cups are convenient. Reusable cups are not. How do we change that? By designing a cup that fits in your pocket as easily as your phone or keys ensuring that its always with you when you need it.

So we started with some basic principles.

It needed to be big enough to hold your coffee but collapse small enough to fit in your pocket.

It needed to be sturdy and have a lid.

It needed to have some form of insulating so that you could hold even the hottest drinks.

With HUNU+ we still had these principles at the forefront but to them we added all the feedback we have received from all our amazing backers to not only increase the size but to improve on every aspect that we could.

Playing around with these early prototypes led to the refining of our design. More 3D rendering allowed us to see how different colours and materials could look.

After a first round of prototyping we continually refined our design to make sure all the details were up to the standard we needed. From fit of the lid (loose enough to take on and off but tight enough to be leakproof) to feel of the silicone (stiff enough to be a great cup but flexible enough to fold easily) to size of the drinking hole and plug we have worked on every detail.
