Save Our Youth
Short Summary:
Juvie Series Created by Dahsheen Amin & StaceyAnn Henry
My name is Dahsheen Amin. I’m a licensed Mental Health Therapist, Screenwriter, Producer and Writer/Co-Creator of the Juvie Series. I have worked with troubled, disadvantaged and At-risk youth in the community and Juvenile Justice system for over 20 years.
My name is StaceyAnn Henry. I’m a Youth Advocate/Mentor, Producer, Creative Director and Co-Creator of the Juvie Series.
Currently 130,000 juveniles are incarcerated in the United States and 70,000 are in detention centers at any given time. The condition of the juvenile offender is one of the most underrepresented social issues in America and yet the institution of juvenile prison has become a commonly disproportionate consequence for young offenders.
We created Juvie Series to produce a thought provoking TV series that emphasizes the needs of At Risk/Incarcerated youth. “Juvie Series”, is a powerful and dynamic film series which poignantly illustrates some of the systemic issues that plague today’s youth and perpetuate the risk of recidivism for juvenile offenders.
This innovative film series gives a powerful cinematic rendition of some of the intrinsic precipitating factors that contribute to juvenile incarceration such as multi-generational poverty, lack of education/community resources and lack of family supports/positive role models.
The “Juvie Series” follows the inception of each character’s personal struggles with poverty, trauma, and criminal enticements and their eventual fateful demise as they succumb to the reality of Juvenile prison.
What We Need:
The Juvie Series campaign seeks to raise $500,000 needed to complete film production to launch Juvie Series Pilot for Season 1. This Series will undoubtedly visually awaken, entertain, and motivate the audience toward gaining a better understanding of the risk factors plaguing our youth and how we as a community can mitigate these risk factors and ultimately save, uplift and empower our youth.
THE IMPACT:
Juvie Series will use the transformative power of film and media to ignite and promote conversations about the injustice of the juvenile justice system.
It’s time for the true perspective of juvenile prison to be embraced. The perspective of the CHILD who comes in thinking that he simply has to “do time” but soon learns that Juvie is much more than that.
Juvie is a youth of color serving a 20% longer sentence than that of their peers for the same crimes.
Juvie is serving 3 felonies before you even know what a felony is. Juvie is being savagely “jumped in” to a gang just to survive the spontaneous culture of random violence, Juvie is coming into the system with braces and leaving with a mustache. Juvie is a show about the delicate intricacies of juvenile prison, the complex personalities of the “family” appointed to raise them and the inexcusable failures of the justice system.
But most importantly, Juvie is about hope, resilience and the power of the human connection. Having worked on the front line as a Mental Health Therapist in a Juvenile prison for 20 years, my story, my passion, my tenacious drive to right the wrongs of legal injustice while also motivating and uplifting the youth, is the inspiration behind the Series – JUVIE
