How Our Ministry Began

Since March 2020, Heidi and Mark Witte have been producing and sharing their free 30 minute Kids’ Liturgy episodes in response to the coronavirus pandemic, when many Catholic churches had to temporarily close their doors. Many families (including theirs!) searched for a way to continue planting the seeds of faith in their children. In fact, continuing their young daughter’s faith formation was the motivation for starting this ministry!

How Our Ministry Has Grown

What started out as a temporary Children’s Liturgy of the Word series for their parish instantly grew into a program watched by thousands of families from all over the world. Viewers from 6 continents have fervently shared how the weekly Kids’ Liturgy YouTube videos have helped their little ones understand God’s Word and grow in faith. So many parents and DREs have noted how this program has been a lifeline during this challenging year. In April of 2020, the program was picked up by the CatholicTV Network, with the first televised episode airing on Easter Sunday. 

With family-friendly religious music by world-renowned Catholic composer John Burland, faith-based signs in American Sign Language, and abundant imagery to help bring Sacred Scripture to life, their videos encourage children to actively participate in the liturgy. Pflaum Publishing Group, a leading Catholic Publisher, graciously provided their wonderful Children’s Celebrate Leader’s Guide as a resource to help Miss Heidi convey the truths of the Catholic faith to young viewers.

Miss Heidi also began designing a free downloadable coloring page to correlate with each Sunday’s Gospel reading. Children can submit their artwork to be aired at the end of a future episode. This allows children to more actively participate in the mission of evangelization–they, too, can help spread the Good News through their art! In recent months, Kids’ Liturgy has received over 250 coloring pages per week from children around the globe! 

What’s Next

Heidi and Mark give thanks to God for leading them to this ministry, which has enriched their lives in so many ways! However, making these weekly episodes has been one of the greatest challenges of their lives. Both Mark and Heidi have spent countless late nights scripting, filming, producing, and editing Children’s Liturgy videos (after their children have gone to bed and after their full-time work and home responsibilities). 

After much prayer and discernment, Mark and Heidi feel called to continue producing Children’s Liturgy of the Word episodes as well as other catechetical programming, and they are doing everything in their power to make this calling their full-time jobs. They have big aspirations of reaching more families, parishes, and Catholic schools around the world to help supplement early childhood catechesis, encourage a deeper understanding of Sacred Scripture, serve as a way for parents to become more involved in their children’s faith journey, and strengthen the faith of our little ones–who are the future of the Church!

About the Producers of Kids’ Liturgy:

Heidi Witte–also known as Miss Heidi– is an alumnus of the University of Notre Dame (’09) and also holds an M.Ed. in Elementary Education from the Alliance for Catholic Education program at Notre Dame. She is a former Catholic school teacher and volunteer Children’s Liturgy catechist and cantor at her family’s parish (Christ the King Catholic Church in South Bend, Indiana). She is a stay-at-home mom to her two young children and works as an independent contractor for Pflaum Publishing Group.

Heidi’s husband, Mark Witte, films and edits all Kids’ Liturgy videos. He is also a graduate of Notre Dame (’09), with his M.F.A. in Film and Television Production from the University of Southern California. Mark has nearly 10 years of experience in media production.
