We’ve tried other solutions of bringing our dog on our bike, but to be fair: in the end all of them were cumbersome and annoying to use. So we made sure that using our seat is not a burden, but a bliss.

To make sure the seat is as safe as it can be, we partnered up with leading experts in the child’s bike safety industry. Together we developed and tested our dog seat.

Our passion for functional and purposeful design led us to design the Kvisp seat. Inspired by the joy kids have in bike seats, we set out a rigorous process to design and test the perfect bike seat for dogs. We want to turn every ride on your bike an unforgettable adventure with your best friend.

Kvisp comes from the Dutch word “kwispelen” which means “a dog wagging its tail” – because making dogs happy on their bike rides is our mission 🙂

And we are very proud to officially announce that we’ve won the 2023 iF Design Award!

Co-creation has always been part of our design process. We spoke with over 200 dog parents across the world, from Amsterdam to Tokyo and San Francisco to understand how they move around with their dogs, hear their obstacles and listen to their recommendations on how we can build a truly dog-centric bicycle seat.

And we continue to involve the community to help us improve our product, shape Kvisp seat accessories and keep us focused on solving the most impactful customer/dog problems.

We want to create a better future for everyone. So from day one we set out to integrate sustainable materials such as bamboo in the seat inlay itself, and recycled carton and paper for our packaging.

What’s more: you can have a positive impact on the environment by traveling by bike with your dog instead of taking the car.

By replacing only 30% of car journeys that are less than 6 km with bicycle trips, we can reduce CO2 emissions by over 15%. This simple change has the potential to make a significant impact on our environment, and we can achieve it together.

Sometimes your dog may meet the maximum weight limit but they might be too tall or their body too wide to fit a Kvisp bike seat. That is why we advise you to measure your dog while they’re sitting down and ensure they meet the below limits.

Simply let your dog choose between sitting up or laying its paws on the seat’s pawboard.

One of the key benefits of the Kvisp seat is that it is front-mounted so your dog and you can enjoy the ride together from up close.

We’ve put in a lot of engineering effort to make the Kvisp seat suitable for most bikes.

Most classic bikes, mountain bikes, road bikes, gravel bikes, hybrid bikes, city bikes, e-bikes fit, but like dogs, all bikes come in different shapes and sizes.

The most important thing is that there is enough space to install the mount on the stem like shown here. You can use our regular mounting bracket or A-head adapter (both come included!):

Two years ago, Janet and I came together and decided to work on our dream: creating a dog-centric and user-friendly way to bring your dog along for a bike ride.

We knew some trailers and bike cages existed, but none of them had the convenience and safety features we liked – let alone a sleek dog-centric design.

We spent countless hours talking to other dog owners and finally decided to stop dreaming and just go for it. During the months after that, we worked every minute outside of our regular jobs on designing, prototyping and testing a better way to take your dog along on our bike rides.

Together with Maarten, we started by testing existing solutions, but all of them had huge drawbacks:

And after lots of iterations and testing, we finally came up with our final patent-pending design:

We’re very proud to announce we’ve partnered up with the world’s leading child bike seat manufacturer to mass produce our Kvisp seat. All production will be based in Portugal, Europe. Manufacturing has already started and molds and the other tooling are already in process.

The great thing about this partnership is that they have more than 40 years of experience creating mass produced bicycle seats and mobility products and comply with the most stringent safety and quality standards.

We will ship the first batch of Kvisp seats from IndieGoGo in August 2023, so you can still enjoy your seat this summer!
