The Journey
I spent years not having the strength to do basic tasks. Things like walking to the mailbox, standing in the shower, standing in front of the stove to cook a meal, and etc. These were all very difficult for me. I was disabled.
I was self-employed at the time, so when I got sick, my bank account got sick too. I struggled to provide financially for myself and be able to afford the foods that I needed to eat in order to heal myself and regain my health. But, buying organic is very expensive! So, I came up with a way to grow lots of fresh food in my apartment bedroom, using the very little space I had. From there, Lettuce Evolve was born.
For over a decade, I’ve committed my life to helping myself and others have access to Fresh Food. I’ve designed more Vertical Garden systems than I can actually remember. Overcoming so many obstacles along the way. Issues with manufacturing, logistics, cultural barriers, visas, and you name it. I had to become a solutions expert, focusing on adapting to my surroundings and utilizing whatever resources I could scrap together to keep the project moving.
The Evolution – 2010 to Now
Needless to say, I’ve had a full trial by fire with recovering my health and engineering on the fly in countries like Mexico, India, Spain, and my home country of the United States. I did all of this in an effort to pursue my passion and reconnect all of us with our food.
HeliX is the Ultimate Garden
Most people will go their entire lives without tasting food this fresh. This is a global pandemic that no one is talking about. Bringing Fresh Food back into the home and reconnecting you with our fundamental roots of humanity is my greatest passion.
Fresh Food, Footsteps Away
Either on your Patio or in your Kitchen, HeliX gives you the freedom to grow where you want. HeliX takes up very little space, only a 6.5sqft diameter footprint on the ground.
These are HeliX Vertical Gardens in Customers homes during Covid. When the store was out of food, they had tons of Fresh Food growing in their homes.
Grow Fruit, Coffee, & Nut Trees
We’re introducing the HeliX 25 model, It has one grow pot on top, capable of holding up to 25 plants and/or Fruit, Coffee, and Nut Trees! That’s right, you read that correctly! All growing without soil and fertilized by fish in a natural ecosystem. I have always tried to push the boundaries of what can be grown. These are one of the coolest plants yet!
There are tons of small/dwarf varieties available. They often use a technicuw called grafting. This is wear you take a branch off of a mature tree, then attach it to a different tree. In this case, they would be grafting it to a naturally smaller tree’s rootstock.
Growing Onions Without Soil
You can grow a wide variety of root crops like Onions, Radishes, Beets, Carrots, etc. In my personal HeliX Vertical Garden, I’ve had radishes ready to eat in 3 weeks from seed, and onions ready to eat in 6 weeks! My onions growing in soil took 4 months!
You Don’t Need a Green Thumb
HeliX is designed to water itself, fertilize itself, and grow lots of delicious Food! When I test our gardens, I always set them up like I’m a first time gardener and not the expert. I feed my fish each day and I top off the water in the tank about once per week. This usually averages about 5 gallons of water.
Designed in Perfection
Our HeliX Vertical Garden Series is the most complete vertical garden on the market. It is the embodiment of all my successes and failures in different countries and climates. Years of designing, engineering, and testing many different materials, pumps, grow medias, and so much more. With our HeliX Vertical Garden Series, I feel like I have finally cracked the code on what I do. Quite simply, HeliX is the Perfect Garden.
John’s Garden Grocery Test
I wanted to do a real test one of my gardens. I setup up a HeliX in my new apartment with the sole purpose of tracking my savings from using all the fruits, veggies, and herbs I grew from it each month, My savings at the end of the grow were pretty amazing!

I have averaged anywhere from $100 to $500 per month in fresh food that I’ve grown in my own HeliX Vertical Gardens. When trying to compare to prices at the store, it’s hard to find food that is truly untouched by someone. How it’s been handled, what’s been sprayed on it? Has anything been injected into it? Has it been modified? I’ve even lived in places where the local farmers injected watermelons with oxytocin and spray painted them green. You truly never know what’s on your food, unless you grow it your self!
RV & Tiny Home Growing
With the popularity of Tiny Homes and off-grid living, I wanted to see just how small of a space I could garden in. I setup a couple of test HeliX Vertical Gardens during Covid on the inside of an RV and on the outside. I wanted to see just how small of a space we could grow inside of, and an RV definitely meets that requirement!
This RV has approximately 120sqft of living space, Total square footage with bedroom and bathroom approximately 240sqft. This was by far the smallest space I’ve grown in!
HeliX is Fully Modular & Expandable
We have upgraded everything on the new HeliX to make it even easier to use and more productive at growing fresh food for you! New pumps, irrigation, grow media, and more! We increased our product line with more modular capabilities so that you can pick a garden size that suits you best. You can expand the size of your HeliX Vertical Garden at any time. Just add another grow pot to the top of the stack, and instantly have more space!
Always remember when planning your garden, the Maximum number of plants depends on what you are growing. Things like Leafy Greens, Herbs, Onions, Radishes, etc use less space, so you can grow the Max amount. Bigger Plants like Tomatoes, Pepper, Zucchini, etc take up more space. You can plant smaller plants in between bigger ones as well to increase your yield 🙂

Planting & Seeding
Planting is easy! You can Seed, Transplant, & Clone directly into your HeliX Vertical Garden.
You don’t have to subscribe to a program or use proprietary specialty seed plugs, netcups, etc to use our Gardens. I intentionally designed HeliX to feel like a dirt garden. We use expanded clay pebbles as a growing medium, instead of dirt. This allows you to plant directly into your grow pebbles. This saves you so much money over the life of your garden, and makes it easier on you to plant a wider variety of food.

Chefs know that Fresh is Best and that amazing dishes start with incredible ingredients! Nothing is more Fresh than the food you pick on-site and walk to the kitchen to prepare!

Easy to Maintain
HeliX has been strategically designed for minimal maintenance from you. It’s always good to inspect your HeliX Vertical Garden when feeding your fish each day. We recommend cleaning the sprinkler once per month, checking the aeration inside the tank for clogs, and inspecting the pump once per month.
