An intentional LGBTQ+ & BIPOC-centric performing arts and café space that cultivates community.
What is EquiTable Space?
EquiTable Space, Inc. is a LGBTQ+ and Black led charitable organization that will operate a live performance theatre and café/bar. The purpose of EquiTable Space, as its name suggests, is to create a ‘community table’ where everyone, specifically LGBTQ+ folks and people of color, has a seat. We are seeking community investment and support in order to lease property that is a live performance theater and café’ venue (aka “the Space”). The Space will be used as an environment to cultivate conversation, showcase underrepresented creatives, and nourish the soul of our community.
Live Performance Space
The performance space will showcase live performances, provide practice space, and host live entertainment spanning from comedy shows to drag shows, hilarious sing-a-longs, album listening parties, dinner theatre, table readings, piano/jazz nights, and whatever the community can imagine. The Space will be offered on a sliding scale fee or at no-cost (when possible) for LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and women. We will tap into the rich and hungry Los Angeles theatre scene, providing a space for existing, current, and newly formed productions and theatre groups.
Z’s Café
The café will offer a daily breakfast and lunch menu made from fresh ingredients as well as select offerings during theater productions and evenings. Z’s Café will be a place where creatives and professionals can enjoy freshly brewed coffee, espresso, tea, and more. The café will also offer a beer and wine selection, including an exclusive menu of wine and beer flights, sourced from black-owned and/or LGBTQ+ owned breweries and wineries. To honor and recognize all of the groups Z’s Café seeks to celebrate, we will host themed-nights and events that speak to the heart and soul of community building.
EquiTable Space Programs
In addition to the above, we will also:
- donate to local charities;
- round-up purchases for charitable donations, with a new charity each month;
- host meet and greets between nonprofits and community members;
- feature black-owned and LGBTQ owned wine, beer, and coffee, including tastings with curators;
- offer workshops/community conversations to engage, educate and motivate; and
- offer venue rentals/buyouts for film/tv, events (i.e. launches, premieres, book signings, etc.), networking, and other private events.
Who is EquiTable Space’s Target Audience?
EquiTable Space will create an intentionally welcoming queer environment. ALL are welcome; however, artists, creatives, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ+ community are encouraged to come create, congregate, and relax in an environment where they are free to be their full authentic selves.
Why Should You Give?
Did you see all of the above?… This is a worthy endeavor led by queer, professionals who believe OUR stories are all intertwined and everyone deserves a seat at the table. OUR success is YOUR success.

Who We Are?
Zekiah N. Wright, Esq. (they/them/Mx.), is a California attorney who specializes in discrimination and labor code violations. Zekiah brings 14 years of restaurant experience to Z’s Café. Zekiah has worked in the restaurant business in many positions including waiting tables, cooking on the line, bartending and managing the front of house.
Zekiah decided to start EquiTable Space because they grew weary of creating change through litigating one case at a time. Instead, Zekiah decided to create an equitable space where ideas flourish and resources are spread across the community. Through this work, Zekiah hopes to bring about social and economic change.
Jackie Steele (she/her/Ms.) is an event producer who has worked for Fortune 50 brands producing events and tours nationwide. Jackie, aka “the 5-foot monster” has also booked, promoted and produced live events in LA for the last 15 years including venues such as The Rainbow Room, The World Famous Comedy Store, and the Hollywood Improv. Jackie’s passion for live events, live performances, and local artists, along with her deep ties to the LGBTQ+ local community has fueled the fire within her to create an inclusive space for all to perform and for audiences to see stage-worthy performances. Jackie also worked with the City of West Hollywood to create the world’s first Bi-Pride, which achieved global acclaim.
The dynamic union of Zekiah and Jackie came into existence because of their collective service to the LGBTQ+ community. Their combined passion for providing space, access, and a voice for all, as well as their fun-spirited “we’ll try anything twice, three times just to be sure”’ approach towards life made for a natural kinship. Their dedication to creating a collaborative environment, working hard, and manifesting purpose created a natural business partnership.
