Eliminate the need to measure and mark materials before cutting them.
We are REEKON Tools. Conceived by Carpenters, Designed by MIT Engineers, and Built in Boston, we are changing the game for power and hand tools.
While tape measures are a staple of any toolbox or carpenter’s belt, the time necessary to take a measurement and mark a material each time you need to make a cut quickly adds up. The original tape measure was invented in the 1800s. While there were some improvements made in the mid-1900s, most of the ‘innovation’ has focused on ergonomics. Knowing there must be a better way to measure quickly, using modern technology with a focus on functionality, we went back to the drawing board and found a better way to extend your reach.
The M1 Caliber measuring device eliminates the need to measure and mark materials, significantly lowering your time to make cuts from your list, increasing safety by keeping everything measurement-related in a centralized location, and is hassle-free allowing you to measure even without your tape measure and marking pencil handy. The M1’s simplicity, intuitiveness, and usefulness makes you wonder “how does this not exist already?”
The M1 Caliber is a fully integrated, patent-pending, measuring tool that clamps to almost any kind of saw fence and outputs measurements of materials slid underneath its wheel on a large, backlit, LCD screen. This Augmented Tool is more accurate, faster to use, and safer than traditional methods. Its integrated clamp allows the M1 to attach to most saws and flat surfaces, dramatically increasing your saw’s capability, with one click of the clamp!
High visibility interaction points, a large backlit display, substantial buttons, and impact-resistant polycarbonate and glass-filled nylon construction ensure this device is ready for any job site and can be operated while wearing gloves. The design has received more than 500 hours of on-the-job testing to make sure it exceeds any and all professional standards and is backed by a 1-year warranty.
The M1 measures by sliding material underneath it. The blade width (and resultant kerf) is automatically added to any measurement taken with the device and can be programmed to match whatever blade you are using in a matter of seconds. It can display both Metric and English measurements and is more accurate and has more resolution than a tape measure. The M1 can make angled cuts, beveled cuts, and, of course, straight cuts!
For a new device like the M1, we’re sure everyone is thinking, “I’ve been using a tape measure since I started working, how can I trust a device like this?“ Well, we figured you might wonder, so we gave more than a dozen of our pre-production units to professionals, contractors, woodworkers, and tool reviewers to make sure it was a proper fit for the job (more on their way too!):

Make repeatable, accurate cuts, quickly. The M1 is built, designed, and tested to improve your workflow. It quickly and effortlessly clamps to most saw fences or any flat surface. The device measures any kind of material rolled underneath it, displaying exact measurements, in both imperial (inches, feet) and metric units (centimeter, millimeters), as well as accounts for the thickness of the blade being used. One-touch of the zero button is all you need to get started and get cutting!
The M1 will measure any flat surface and any kind of building material that can be slid underneath it. In addition, it can also measure flat, but curved, surfaces such as pipes and tubes. Whether you’re flying through dimensional lumber to frame out a house, cutting composite planks for a deck, or putting the finishing touches on the trim around a window, the M1 has you covered.
The M1 is a dynamic tool that clamps to a wide variety of saws, fence geometries, and configurations. While certain fences require a non-intrusive adapter plate to be used, the M1 Caliber’s integrated clamp has been painstakingly designed to work directly with most fence geometries of the proper height. See section lower on the page for more details on saw compatibility.
The M1 Caliber works on both the right and left sides of the saw (although the automatic height adjustment, from feeding in material, will only work on the left side). Holding the “Zero” button allows you to switch between modes to select which direction of travel is positive vs negative. To use on the right side, simply keep the arm in the locked, up positon, until the material to measure is underneath it, then use the device as normal!
The M1 can make beveled and mitered cuts. The M1 functions by measuring what is rolled underneath it. Angled cuts are no exception with the only difference being the blade offset value (depending on kind of cut being made) as well as where you want to measure from (inside or outside) edge.
The M1 Caliber works with a variety of selectable units to best suit your needs and preferences. Selecting the center “Units” button will allow you to easily toggle between units, whenever you like. A large, backlit, LCD screen makes it easy to view the display in a variety of lighting conditions.
Based on the initial feedback we have been receiving from international testers, we will also be adding a millimeters mode to our production units as well!
Make quick work of your material with the M1 Caliber. The M1 Caliber allows for uninterrupted cutting. No stops, no tape measures, no marking, just cutting. The M1 is an intuitive user-friendly device that is designed to minimize disruption but maximize productivity. Getting started is quick and easy.
After testing the M1 Caliber with over 2 dozen people and logged over 500 hours of cut time on the device, we are confident in its ability to perform in the field. We are a customer-driven company and make sure all of the products can perform in the field under real-world job site conditions and beyond professional standards.
The M1 Works for all phases of construction. Every professional has different requirements for their work. In order to best understand those requirements, we spoke to more than 50 professionals and gave many of them M1 units to test out as we refined and developed the design of the device.
“This is cool but how well can it actually measure?” We hear this question often. Trust is something that is earned. The tape measure is a time tested device so why trust this new device? The M1 measure is designed as a precision device that can survive the tough demands of the modern job site.
We have worked tirelessly to ensure the M1 delivers a robust experience. The M1 functions by measuring what is rolled underneath it. An encoder mounted in the device converts rotary measurements into displayed linear measurements. The wheel is spring-loaded down and maintains contact with the stock at all times. A specifically formulated multilayer rubber material is designed to both not slip as well as be extremely wear-resistant. The only input required by the user is selecting where to begin measuring which is generally when the edge of the piece of the wood is in contact with the blade.
So how does all of this translate into the accuracy and precision and what should you care about?
For most pieces of material, this is no problem and any surface imperfections will not significantly affect the final measurement. However, severely twisted, bent, or warped piece of dimensional lumber could cause measurement inaccuracies.
Not all measurements are made equally. The measuring device you use, the thickness of the line, and even the weather all affect the accuracy of a measurement you are making. When developing the M1 Caliber, we spent a lot of time understanding what may seem to be a basic question “how do people measure things.” We were surprised to discover how complicated this subject can be for something that people have been doing for hundreds of years. We took the best lessons learned from this exercise to make sure the M1 exceeded all standards of linear measurement ensuring it will provide quality results on the job site.
While not a difficult device to use, proper technique leads to proper measurements which results in proper cuts. The device is designed to be robust and more accurate than a tape measure; however, utilizing proper tips and techniques will ensure you are getting consistent and accurate cuts every time!
- Keep material edge in contact with the fence when sliding
- Chose relatively straight/flat material
- Be sure to zero the device each cut that you make!
- Beginning cuts generally are more accurate than making contact with the side of the blade for selecting a zero position
Whether in your shop, on a stand, or in the field, chances are the M1 can clamp to your saw. The M1 Caliber will clamp to any flat surface less than 7mm thick. The M1 has been specifically designed to work directly with most miter saws with tall fences. We specifically engineered the self-contained clamp to attach to a wide variety of saw types, manufacturers, and fence geometries. Throughout this page, you can see a small sampling of the various saws it has been attached to. In addition, below, we have included more specifics on the clamping requirements of the device to check to see if yours is compatible as well as more information about our fence adapter which can be used if you have a short fence!
While we don’t have a full list of every saw compatible, please use the below guide to check your fence. Feel free to shoot us an email or leave a comment as well and we would be happy to assist any way we can as well!
