“The largest crater located near the south pole of the moon – the largest crater with over 2500 kilometers in diameter” 

Being invisible from people’s sight from earth, the full-of-impact-crater-back of the moon has always been a mystery. It is also home to the South Pole–Aitken Basin (South Pole–Aitken Basin), the largest, oldest and deepest crater on the moon. Who knows what else this mysterious land is home to.

Some private space companies of the United States are planning to join hands with the government to land on the moon again in 2022 conducting research and development with rockets, lunar surface probes, and manned vehicles.

Hopefully by all the rocket science, we would finally be able to find out what is out there one day.

The design of “Lunar Crater “is inspired by the spacecraft of the moon landing program.

You can easily see the streamlined design from the watch case, buckle and case back lens which assembles the most attractive design of the spacecraft – its streamlined diagonal mesh skylight.

The center of Dial is inlaid with a 21MM-aluminum-made-3D moon. With Swiss Superluminova luminous coating surface, the moon shine vividly and bright. In darkness, you can read the time through the moon’s light height and the shadow position of watch hands.

Meteorite from outerspace is used in the lower layer of the dial. This meteorite is we used Muonionalusta in Sweden, an extremely rare material which landed on the earth after a long journey in the outerspace for 4.3 billion years. After professional cut and chemical protective coating, each dial is inlaid with a 0.3mm thick meteorite piece at the bottom. The meteorite has a unique and natural Weidmann pattern with a unique background to make it more appealing and iconic. It echoes the moon in the center with the craters surface.

Inspired by the spacecraft of the moon landing program, the crown of Lunar Crater has an innovative and irregular shape. It requires an extreme planning and production process to achieve the straight and sharp fine details. With all the fine details, it allows a more accurate time adjustments of the watch rotation.

Our iconic curved hands design is adopted in Lunar Crater – the perfect match for the 3D moon. The arc design makes the hands walk smoothly around the moon. With such bending hands, it enhances the difficulty to assembly the watch. We have to be extremely careful and cautious so the hand tubes would not get across with each. It is a true masterpiece. The hands of the watch are deliberately made hollow without adding any luminous effect so they would not block the moonlight behind while the shining moon could help with the time reading.

The double dome sapphire crystal on Lunar Crater demonstrates the streamline aesthetic. 3 layer of anti-reflection plating is added on the bottom of the sapphire crystal to make the surface look clearer and brighter.

The Movement employs the long reliable Japanese SII NH70A, with 21,600 bph. vibrations, Geneva Waves on Rotor and a power reserve of more than 35 hours.  All contributes to achieve accurate time display.

With CNC cutting process, the buckle has a unique design demonstrating a strong sense of architectural aesthetics.

The structure of this case is highly complex. A CNC-cut cover is tailor-made to wrap the main case.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The leather strap uses two materials. One is the Italian Crazy Horse leather, rough, wild and unrestrained, while the other one is the Italian cracked belt. The belt has a unique pattern and echoes the texture of the meteorite on the surface. The straps are equipped with quick-release spring bars, allowing users to quickly remove the straps and replace them without any tools.

It comes with a vivid 30mm-moon model and a cubic stand. Users could put it on the stage for decoration and appreciate the moon any time they want.

HOW IT WORKS

As always, packaging plays an important in our story telling. To further extend the theme, the box is made of paper with rock pattern. The box is inlaid with three-dimensional MW characters, in matt black which brings this Lunar Cater a visual shock.

From concept to product development, from product development to final visual preparation, the entire campaign took more than 6 months. The complexity of the case and the surface is a real headache for the whole team. We could only finalize the appearance after 2 prototyping.
