Oculis Lodge is surrounded by 7 acres of undeveloped land in the rural town of GLACIER—just a 25-minute drive to the ski slopes of Mount Baker.

Each dome comes with a 15 FT skylight. From the loft, you can literally sleep under the stars in the comfort of your bed.

Oculus means “eye” in Latin. In architecture, it’s a window or shape that has an opening of an oval or circular shape. It symbolizes the union of the earth and sky, which allows human prayer to ascend to the heavens. It links architecture to the cosmos. it was also used as a sundial to track the time of day.

Located at just a 2 hours drive from Vancouver, BC and about 2 1/2 hours drive from Seattle Oculis Lodge makes the perfect getaway for both long weekends and week-long expeditions to America’s greatest natural wonder.

During the winter of 1998-99, Mt. Baker received 1,140 inches of snowfall – verified by NOAA as the World Record for snowfall during a single winter season! So needless to say that powder will be there during the winter season for you to enjoy the slopes. Mount Baker is well known for its summer and winter activities. 100’s miles of trails for biking and hiking. Waterfalls and rivers surround the area.

We thought that looking at the star through our 15 FT skylight was not enough so we decided to equip each dome with its own telescope. Astronomy is one of our passion that we wanted to share with our guests. With the telescope, you will be able to watch closely all the lunar features including mountains and valleys, craters, and Maria while sipping on a glass of wine by the pit fire. 

The founder of Oculis Lodge is also the founder of Igloo Beach Lodge in Costa Rica so building domes is not new to us. We have experience developing and building so we can deliver large projects easily. Most of the team we previously used in Costa Rica will work with us in Mount Baker.

The concrete dome is similar in shape and structure to an egg which has always been a fascination. The egg shows us that relatively soft and weak material can be used to create a very strong structural shape.

Domes are possibly the greenest way to build. Probably because of their efficient use of materials, structural integrity, and energy efficiency. They use 50% less energy to heat and cool.

We use recycled concrete and reclaimed wood and various recycled material to lower the impact on the planet.

Domes availability is limited and dates will sell out fast! We’re prioritizing booking by Access Level and Length of Stay so the sooner you back the campaign and the longer your stay, the earlier access you’ll have on our website to book, meaning the more options you’ll have for dates!

If you are the first person to book a 7-night Stay, you will have first access to confirm your dates. Priority will then go through everyone who booked at that length of Stay, with the next priority going to the next length of stay and so on in sequential order.
