∞ LARGE road bike WHEELS that are FOLDABLE
∞ 3 fun ways to fold
∞ carbon fiber frame
∞ outSTANDing

Story

If you had to store three regular-sized bikes at home, what would your family members say?

Your apartment isn’t big enough, so you have to leave a bike that costs over USD 1200 in a public parking space. What would your concerns be?

You’re in a hurry, but the train departing is almost full. If you take the next train, you will definitely be late, what would you do?

When you have an SD1 bike (more than 4 of which can fit into an SUV), your family members will not complain about your bike(s) taking up space. Your bike won’t be damaged or stolen. And you can get on the train even when it is crammed.

Problems solved.

∞ THE OTHER HALF will always stand BIKE you ∞

The SD1 team

The designer of the SD1 bike is not unlike the protagonist of ‘The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind’. In the movie, the boy lives in a low-income rural neighborhood. He is banned from attending school since his parents’ are unable to pay tuition fees. Despite that, he searches through trash cans for reusable electronic components, with which he skilfully fixes radios for friends.  In order to save members of his village from drought, William tries to build a windmill to power the damaged water pump, with parts from a family bicycle that his father does not allow him to dismantle.

Likewise, Henry (designer and CEO of SD1) actively identifies problems through using his observation techniques and ponders over innovative solutions that bring positive changes to the Hong Kong community. One major difference between Henry and William, though, is that one broke a bike and the other one has built one. In spite of a lack of university degree, this forever curious sexagenarian has been working strenuously and teaching himself a multitude of things about electronic components as well as mechanical engineering from a young age. He is fascinated by all kinds of vehicles.

Diversity and Inclusion

Our team values diversity and inclusion (in terms of ethnic background as well as age). Having worked in Latvia, the Netherlands and Sweden, Pavels (CTO of SD1) is familiar with the designs and mechanics of an array of bicycles. This certified welder and computer technician enjoys repairing items with a collection of handmade/repurposed tools. The young and high-spirited fitness advocate is also an avid table tennis player who promotes vegan diet and sustainable lifestyle. In short, he cares about cycling and re-cycling.

Get involved

Experienced cyclists and former participants of cycling championships will hopefully join the team as marketing, strategy and technology consultants in the future. Possible partners are contract OEM factories (original equipment manufacturer) and bike parts manufacturing companies. The SD1 bikes will likely be manufactured in China or a Southeast Asian country.

Propel us forward

A not inconsiderable amount of money has been invested in obtainment of patents in advanced regions, including Europe, America, Australia, Japan and Taiwan.

The prototype is ready. The SD1 team currently needs about HKD 20 million to begin our manufacturing journey. All sorts of support are welcomed.

Target consumer group

Individuals who are passionate about cycling, health, environmental sustainability and those who prefer large bike wheels but live in small spaces!

Models offered by companies that manufacture folding bikes such as Brompton and Pacific Cycles mostly feature 20” wheels. Interestingly, according to the International Market Analysis Research and Consulting Group, 26” wheels offer a balanced blend of PERFORMANCE and COMFORT.
