Deep-looking, realistic skyscape inside a 10cm thick panel + time-of-day colour changing clouds.
Bring daylight and realistic skyscapes into your home with SkyVista™.
Imagine you could invite daylight with all its benefits into any living space, no matter its size, no matter its location – even places remote from external walls. Now, dare to imagine a view of the sky, with wispy clouds – as if you were looking through a window!
That experience can be yours, with SkyVista™, brought to you by LightRealm.
SkyVista™, is a first of its kind hybrid lighting device with the form factor of a window – but one with a unique visual aspect – views of an azure sky and distant clouds!
Cloud scenes move as your perspective shifts
Today, any number of companies offer circadian lighting solutions but none can capture the full daylight experience associated with a window view i.e. a realistic skyscape.
None that is, except LightRealm
LightRealm have accomplished the impossible by marrying what approaches full spectrum lighting, with 3D display optics. Hybridisation of these technologies has allowed LightRealm to deliver the most exciting and unapologetically disruptive lighting/display technology of recent years – a product that defies the norms of conventional optics. Something that presents in short, as a ‘real’ window/skylight, visually and experientially.
Being only 21Kg, SkyVista™ fixtures are installed the same way you might fit a flat panel light.
In the case of an office fitting we highly recommend SkyVista™ units are further supported by wires. These wires hook directly onto its framework.
For residential installations, a mounting kit is provided which is fixed to the joists prior to the fitting of the unit.
(Note. Framework of the commercial model may differ slightly in style)
Two size formats are are available as perks here on Indiegogo.
Both the fixed-colour CIRRUS models and the colour changing NIMBUS models are available in 600x600mm square format and the rectangular 1200x300mm format.
Clouds change colour by remote control.*
The NIMBUS model can alter the colour of its clouds to reproduce a particular time of day e.g. its clouds can take on a warm appearance (tinged with amber) to mimic morning and evening, or appear white – bordering translucent, if set to midday.
All the while, the sky itself maintains a cool, blue setting. This blending of light from the clouds and sky results in a natural daylight spectrum and prevents a room at cooler settings, looking too cold.
Wake up to a morning skyscape of clouds tinged with the warm glow of a rising sun then watch as they recede with one click of your remote, into a cool blue sky as midday approaches and then click again to enable a soft amber radiance, as the day transitions to evening.
*Colour changing clouds only available on ‘NIMBUS’ models.
Let’s talk about Wellbeing.
It sits centremost in our design.
The light from a SkyVista™ artificial skylight conforms very closely with natural daylight or what is technically known as ‘the daylight locus’. You can see the technical details in our ‘What is daylight?’ subheader (compiled for lighting aficionados like us). When daylight conditions can be matched a myriad of known physiological benefits ensue, raising your humour, improving your sleep and increasing your concentration during waking hours.
These effects arise from the modulation of endogenous serotonin upon exposure to changing light conditions.
Small shifts in colour (geek alert: Corrected Colour Temperature or CCT) and brightness over time (circadian cycle), are fundamental to maintaining good health. SkyVista™ helps to restore that natural rhythm (see below).
What is daylight?
Daylight, as we perceive it, arises from the interaction of sunlight with the atmosphere, clouds, terra-firma and large bodies of water, but if you were to describe it in technical terms, you would refer to its ‘photometric attributes’ and above all, its relationship to what is known as the Planckian Curve. Daylight is represented as a locus on the CIE colour chart and closely conforms to the Plackian, sitting just above it (see x,y chart below). Any source that resides between these two curves (or sits very close to them) is generally considered to be the colour of daylight – which changes throughout the day.

PHOTOMETRICS FOR ‘COOL WHITE’ (4621K) SCENE
SkyVista™ models, NIMBUS 6.6 and NIMBUS 12.3, provide just such a colour changing sky palette.
What it won’t do:
- Give you a suntan – no UV to speak of.
- Warm you up (at least not physically) – no IR to speak of
- Expand your conscious being, or
- Burn a hole in your pocket. Cloud Vista runs on 40W and in terms of efficiency – is comparable to a conventional light panel.
What it will do:
- Cast high quality light into the room thereby mimicking daylight conditions
- Present a compelling view of the sky and clouds
- Make a habitable space, more compelling.
So… how does it work?
Well as you can probably guess, we really want to make our technology as inaccessible as possible to our competitors.
However, we can offer a broad insight into what lies within, starting with the light source. More correctly, ‘sources’ wherein both white and blue light is radiated in all directions by an array of tiny ‘point emitters’. Above them, a many layered optical stack directionally steers the light from each emitter thereby creating segregated beams of blue and white patterns which are perceived as sky and cloud
Each layer of the optical stack carries a very precise pattern of sub-millimetric features that modulate the emitted light and it is these features, their spacing and form, that determines the final appearance of the sky and cloud formations.
Patents pending: GB2310938.2, GB2310941.6
Why do we need crowdfunding?
The manufacture of the optical stack is a closely guarded secret, and the process calls upon equipment that is both advanced and expensive. To date we have been able to rent time on this equipment on the understanding we will eventually buy it and it is for this reason we are seeking support from you.
The company is headed by CEO, Sean Flynn MSc MIET, who has a proven track record in manufacturing innovation and optical design, and lighting professional David Lang-Smith (Director of Sales & Marketing) who knows the industry inside and out, with past oversight of multi-million pound budgets. Our expertise also extends to factory layouts and new product development. Needless to say, we are exceptionally well qualified to take this business forward.
If you choose to support us, we will take you with us on our journey, post regular updates and leave you in no doubt where we sit on our milestone chart, on a week by week basis.
From all of us at LightRealm,
Thank you!
