Meet the Creator

Hello, I’m Michael Hill, the creator of “SmallTown Outsiders.” I am a 6x award winning film director with over 15 years of filmmaking experience (currently 25 ). Our campaign is focused on producing Season 2 of “SmallTown Outsiders,” a thrilling TV series set in 1989 Oakwood, Texas. This project started as a creative spoof trailer, which then snowballed into an actual TV show. It’s important to me because it not only continues a story that has captivated many but also supports local talent and the budding film industry in Mansfield, Texas as season 1 was the first TV Show EVER produced entirely in our city. With your support, we can bring this ambitious project to fruition, providing jobs and opportunities for local filmmakers and actors, and creating a series that showcases the rich storytelling potential of our community.

Why We Need Your Support

We are aiming to raise $600,000, which will be allocated as follows:
– Actor pay for 35 cast members, including 3 SAG-AFTRA actors
– Costume design
– Props
– Renting film equipment

This follow up season looks to not only expand on the existing story in Season 1 but introduce new characters and subplots that only thicken the stakes and build upon the world! In order to achieve a greater scale while maintaining a high quality production we need the funds listed.

Contributors can look forward to a range of exciting perks, including behind-the-scenes access, exclusive merchandise, and even opportunities to visit the set!

If we do not reach our entire goal, the funds raised will still go towards the production of the series, focusing on critical areas like actor pay and essential equipment. Every contribution helps us get closer to bringing “SmallTown Outsiders Season 2” to life.

What You’re Supporting

SmallTown Outsiders is a groundbreaking project, setting new historical precedents for the North Texas film scene. With production companies like ZebraTail Studios (Dallas), Daydream Media (Irving), G.o.d Life Produxions (Dallas), and our own MicHill Entertainment (Mansfield/Arlington), we’re assembling a dream team of talented creatives. Together, we aim to produce this series entirely independently, showcasing the incredible possibilities when local talent collaborates.

MicHill Entertainment has strong ties to educational institutions like STEM Academy, YMCA, and Ben Barber Career Tech Academy, providing aspiring filmmakers opportunities they never thought possible. We’ve been recognized with the largest grant ever awarded to a filmmaker by the Mansfield Commission for the Arts for both seasons of SmallTown Outsiders, and we continue to work with local vendors, teachers, students, and talent to bring this project to life.

By supporting this campaign, you’re not just backing a show—you’re investing in the future of indie filmmaking in North Texas, empowering the next generation of creators and helping the region grow as a hub for cinematic innovation.

In the color grade we really want to immolate the look of late 80s films by replicating the color profile and characteristic of film stocks from 1985-1989. These test shots of Gabriel Hill and Spencer Yang closely resemble 8514 Fuji and Afga XT320 Stock which was used in films like ‘Heathers’ (1989) ‘Hellraiser’ (1987) and Paris, Texas (1984). This stock has a creamy feel with soft highlights and warm red-ish skin tones.

For the scenes centered around the main teens, I want to transport the audience straight into the heart of a 1989 summer, evoking that nostalgic vibe through a color palette that’s slightly washed yet bursts with vibrancy. Think of it as a visual love letter to that era, where every frame feels alive and brimming with energy. A prime reference for this aesthetic is Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing a film that doesn’t just show 1989; it breathes it. The way that movie captures the heat, the tension, and the rhythm of the streets is exactly what I want to echo here. Our cinematography will pulsate with life, with fully lit faces that radiate warmth and sharp sun edge lights that give each scene a dynamic, almost tangible energy. This isn’t just about capturing a look—it’s about immersing the audience in the essence of that unforgettable summer.

Overcoming Challenges Together

Our team is experienced and dedicated, with a strong background in film production and project management. We have successfully navigated challenges in the past and are prepared to tackle any obstacles that come our way.

We’ve created specific plans to ensure SmallTown Outsiders can be executed at various budget levels—whether we raise $50k, $100k, $200k, or our ideal $600k. These detailed strategies allow us to adapt while maintaining the integrity of the project. Our hope is to exceed expectations and reach historic numbers never before seen for an indie film crowdfunding campaign.

Regular updates and open communication will keep our backers informed and engaged throughout the process, ensuring a transparent and exciting journey for everyone involved.
