Concept

Get books into the hands of girls to EMPOWER them to BE BOLD so they can CREATE THEIR OWN FUTURE

Story

This book is about my story.  A story about growing up with Vietnamese refugee parents in America who needed to figure out a path to a better life. Going from living out of my car while working at two KFCs and other side hustles to living in Switzerland while leading the launch of digital platforms across the globe. For girls with immigrant parents, low socio-economic status, or who are living in a difficult home situation, can identify themselves through my stories and realize that they, too, can rise up out of their situation and thrive.

Help with Publishing Costs

I started the writing process in 2019 and completed the manuscript in September 2020. So far $70,000 has been invested in developing content of the book to get accepted by Greenleaf Publishing and Fast Company.

In order to get it across the finish line and into the hands of girls and young women who can benefit from its message, an additional $50,000 is needed to cover publishing costs. This is where I would love your help.

By supporting you can get up the following:

  • Your personal signed copy
  • Donate copies to underserved girls to inspire hope
  • Invitation to the book launch party, after COVID, either in the U.S. or in Europe, your choice
  • And much more depending on your sponsorship level!

The Impact

Your support can help get the message of discovering what you’re capable of when you show up for yourself to as many underserved, underrepresented girls around the world as possible. For more details about the book you can check out janet-phan.com

Through my 1:1 long-term STEM mentoring non-profit organization started in 2016, Thriving Elements, we have been able to create access and opportunities for many underserved, underrepresented girls across the U.S and have begun global expansion spanning Switzerland, Uganda, Botswana, Nigeria, Tanzania, South Africa, and India. This book complements the work of Thriving Elements to further develop and empower girls and young women globally.

Challenges

One of the challenges is that the target audience of the book, underserved girls, are likely not able to afford the book. We plan  to overcome this hurdle through a buy one, give one concept.

The other challenge is that I ain’t no Michelle Obama. My team and I plan to spread the message of hope to reach various outlets through grassroots PR efforts.

Other Ways You Can Help

I understand that this may be a tough time to contribute, however, here are some ways we can use your help:

  • Spread the word to your network about this campaign.
  • Ask the company you work for to sponsor books for the girls.
  • Volunteer with your skills. There’s a lot of work behind the scenes from operational to legal to business development so we can use your help!
