With SWÖM we want to provide an added layer of safety to children, while at the same time allowing them to freely swim and play in the water. As long as the child is on the water surface, SWÖM feels like a normal swimwear. Should your child become submerged 50 cm / 20 inches under the surface for more than 8 seconds, it will automatically inflate.

SWÖM is not meant as a substitution for normal buoyancy aids, such as inflatable armbands etc. Instead we have created SWÖM to be used by children, who are no longer using traditional buoyancy aids. For some children this happens early, and for others a bit later. We therefore provide SWÖM for age groups ranging from 3-12 years.

High-precision built-in sensor system keeps track of your child
Simply turn on your SWÖM by clicking the button on the tech pack before your child enters the water. While in use, the integrated sensor system measures the child’s position in the water 10 times every second, using a high-precision sensor. The tech pack is automatically calibrating the pressure level equal to the water surface at your specific location.
The battery in SWÖM is rechargeable (charging cable included, when you order your SWÖM) and has a runtime of at least 12 hours of active use.

One of our key design principles at SWÖM is to ensure that we build everything to comply with the absolute highest standards.
We are therefore putting SWÖM through an extensive testing regime based predominantly on the ISO 12402 safety standards for life jacket. All testing and certification of SWÖM will be conducted by the third-party Notified Body in Denmark within Marine Equipment.
How a tragic accident gave life to the idea of SWÖM
The idea behind SWÖM actually arose from a tragedy. Back in 2018 the founder of SWÖM Niclas witnessed a drowning accident of a small boy in a hotel pool. Having a son around the same age at the time got him to think about solutions to increase water safety for children.
But hey… kids grow fast! Do I then need to repurchase a whole new SWÖM kit each season?
No you don’t! We have designed SWÖM in a way that when your child grows you can purchase a new stand-alone SWÖM swimsuit at a reduced price, and reuse the technology from your old SWÖM in the new swimwear. We call that clever!
The same thing goes if you want to have SWÖM in different colors at the same time for the same child. You then have the option to switch the technology pack between the two SWÖM Swimwear in different colors. Later on – in 2025 – we wil therefore open up for selling stand-alone SWÖM Swimwear.

Meet the team behind SWÖM
Niclas is the founder of SWÖM. He lives in Sweden right next to a lake, and as a former amateur diver, he spends a lot of times being in and around the water with his two children. In his professional career, Niclas has previously been building and running companies for decades. From 2007-2014 he was the CEO of the largest Nordic streaming service Viaplay.
Jakob is co-founder in SWÖM. He has two children below the age of 5. When Jakob met Niclas back in 2022 he immideately quit everything else he was doing in his professional life and went 100 % into working on increasing water safety for children all over the globe.
Georgi is co-founder in SWÖM. Having grown up far away from the sea shore, and with no immediate pools around, Georgi has felt the difficulties of learning to safely swim from an early age himself. Georgi has his master’s degree, PhD and Postdoc from the Technical University of Denmark, and is in charge of the embedded sensor system in SWÖM.
Dick is the inflation system manager in SWÖM. Dick has spent his whole carrier building airbag systems, both in cars and inflatable wearables. For the last 15 years before joining SWÖM, he was responsible for the inflator system in the inflatable helmet Hövding.
Penelope is working with the user experience and design of the SWÖM swimwear. She has a great passion for sports in general and is by far the fastes swimmer in the SWÖM-team. Before joining SWÖM she was working within a large European sports and gear brand.
Two years of full-time development and almost 1 mio. USD have been invested into SWÖM
The idea behind SWÖM originated in 2018. In 2022 the founders came together and built the first prototype. Since then SWÖM has raised almost 1 million USD of which the main part is invested in R&D and product development.
With the current timeline projection, we are ready to ship SWÖM to our backers in April 2025.
Risks & Challenges
Getting SWÖM from the conceptual stage to where we are now has been a journey in overcoming both risks and challenges. Relying on a very experienced team, we have managed to always progress and reach our targets – and so we aim to do with regards to delivering on the Indiegogo campaign.
We acknowledge that the final version of the product, that will be shipped to backers, might have minor design difference, which would mainly be due to optimization in the production line.
Also we acknowledge that the certification proces for certain parts of the world might prolong delivery time, eventhough we have set aside a good amount of time in the timeline for certification purposes.
Product disclaimer: It is important to notice that SWÖM in itself does not prevent drowning or protect the user against drowning. SWÖM is a swimwear, with a built-in sensor and inflator system, that automatically inflates itself, if the sensor records a certain amount of absolute pressure for a certain amount of time. Parent supervision is strongly recommended in all cases and at all times when children are in and around water. This also includes when children are wearing SWÖM.
