Story

Introducing the Talking Drum Bluetooth Speaker

A Fusion of African Heritage and Modern Technology

The talking drum is an ancient African percussion instrument with a rich history and cultural importance across the continent. The origins of this drum can be traced back to West Africa, particularly regions inhabited by Yoruba and Hausa. However, variations of similar drum types also exist in other parts of Africa.

Talking drums are traditionally crafted from pieces of wood that are carved out in a hollow, hourglass shape with a drumhead tightly stretched over each end. The drumheads are usually made from goatskin or cowhide, which is secured with ropes and leather straps. These ropes are then used to tune the drum by adjusting the tension.

The drum is a great communication tool because of its ability to mimic the tones and rhythms of African languages. Drummers can produce a wide range of sounds that imitate the intonation and cadence of spoken words by varying the tension of the strings and drumheads using different techniques. This is the reason for the name – “talking drum”.

Talking drums have played an important role in the cultural life of many African tribes for centuries. Its usage is applied widely across a range of activities from ceremonial occasions to storytelling. Its influence is also global as it can be found in contemporary world music.

In summary, the talking drum stands as a symbol of creativity, tradition, communication and cultural pride in Africa.

The Talking Drum Bluetooth Speaker blends traditional African craftsmanship with modern audio technology. Inspired by the iconic African talking drum, this speaker features a polished pine wood hourglass shape and a 2mm white leather cord, offering both aesthetic appeal and durability.

    • Allocate funds to essential marketing activities to create initial awareness and drive sales.
  • Gradual Scaling:

The Impact

  • This project aims to promote African culture in the consumer electronics space. Our mission is to produce unique consumer electronics that blend African creativity with modern technology. Success with this project will help us solidify our brand as a promoter of African culture. We want to be in the position to continue building more products like this.
  • We hope this project will inspire the next generation of African youths to appreciate ancestral legacies and develop a strong sense of pride in African ingenuity.

Risks & Challenges

  • Lithium batteries: Lithium batteries are very dangerous if handled poorly. This is why our products will go through rigorous safety certifications in US, UK and Canada to ensure customer safety.
  • Functional art: We expect anyone buying our Talking Drum Speaker to treat it like a valuable piece of art. One of the main aesthetic components of this speaker is the 2mm leather cord which gives it the authentic African Talking Drum look. We encourage our customers to keep it away from sharp objects. Even though the speaker is very well built and durable, the strings could be damaged if exposed to sharp objects or pulled aggressively. Our R&D team is working to develop a synthetic material that looks like the 2mm leather cord but much tougher and able to withstand rough handling.
