BUDGET

We’ve already begun capturing Tashi’s journey and the unique community at Jhamtse Gatsal. While we have some powerful footage, to fully tell this story, we’ll be returning to India in January to film more of Tashi’s growth and Lobsang’s wisdom in action. After filming, we’ll continue the crucial stages of post-production and distribution, where the story will come together for the world to see.

BASE GOAL: $25,000
Our base goal allows us to reimburse some of the initial filming costs and the upcoming January shoot. In order for us to fully bring this film to life, we’ll be announcing our stretch goals as the project advances.

STRETCH GOAL 1: $100,000
Reaching this goal would enable us to dive deeper into post-production, allowing us to start refining the story, edit more footage, and ensure higher quality across the board. This additional funding also supports the creation of some shorter videos to share updates with you as we progress.

Our team has captured some powerful footage, and we’ll be returning to the community in January to gather the final pieces of the story. With all the groundwork already laid, we’re on track to complete post-production and aim to premiere the film in May. Meet Andrew Hinton and Johnny Burke, the Emmy-winning filmmakers who first stumbled upon Jhamtse Gatsal a decade ago. Instantly captivated by the profound kindness of this hidden Himalayan community, they felt compelled to share its story with the world.

With years of experience and a collection of prestigious awards, Andrew and Johnny bring a unique sensitivity to their storytelling, capturing the depths of human connection and resilience. Their work on Tashi and the Monk earned international acclaim, including an Emmy, for its moving portrayal of love and compassion in action.

Now, they’re returning to Jhamtse Gatsal to embark on a follow-up project—a continuation of a story that has already touched so many lives.

WHAT IS JHAMTSE GATSAL?

Jhamtse Gatsal, which means “Garden of Love and Compassion” in Tibetan, is a remarkable community nestled in the remote Himalayan mountains of India. Founded by former Buddhist monk Lobsang Phuntsok, it serves as a home, school, and family for children from extremely challenging backgrounds, offering them safety, education, and a deep sense of belonging.
