A Community of Books, Roasts, Imagination and Inclusion

We are a niche science-fiction/fantasy bookstore and cafe! We serve Blue Copper Coffee and The Baking Hive treats, and we host tabletop role-play gaming. This campaign will raise funds and community excitement as we seek a brick-and-mortar space. We plan to open Spring 2022.

Science-fiction/fantasy literature blows the status quo out of the water, allows freedom of imagination, is a revolutionary approach to sharing experience through an epic lens. We are working to create a legendary community where we can gather to share narratives, nerd out over books, tabletop role-play game with friends and community, and enjoy local roasts and eats from our favorite Salt Lake City artisans. We are partnering to serve Blue Copper Coffee and The Baking Hive delights, among other local partners! 

• We are two queer siblings whose lives have been impacted immeasurably by science-fiction and fantasy literature. We are building The Legendarium to establish a safe space where the thrill of imagination can be shared through limitless narratives in a loving community. We love the inclusivity of SFF literature, and are excited to highlight women and indigenous authors, anti-racist and black voices, and LGBTQ+ authors. 
• Your contribution and support will absolutely be crucial to building this community. More than purveyors of books and roasts, The Legendarium is a belief in the power of imagination to draw humans together to celebrate and share the diversity of lived experience. Science-fiction/fantasy provides boundless, infinite space to understand and redefine the world and human experience. This community is gorgeous! While by no means an easy venture, we are passionate about this genre and community, and are dedicated to its creation.

The Impact

Ever wander the shelves of a bookstore and wonder why the science-fiction/fantasy section is so small, when the genre is the fastest-growing in literature? Wish that the booksellers were as pumped and eager to nerd out as you in giving you SFF recommendations? We do, too! We are so excited to share our passion for books and all things SFF-related that we are launching a brick-and-mortar space to do it. 

This genre has always pushed the boundaries of societal norms, asked questions through world-building literature, and we cannot wait to do this with you!

Risks & Challenges

Running an independent bookstore is no simple endeavor in the age of online ordering. A bookstore is so much more than a wall with books, though. It is a community space to gather, it is holding a book in your hand, discovering new treasures and recommendations from booksellers as excited about the genres as you, it is world-building with an inclusive community of friends.

We offer more than just the tangible feel and delightful smell of books, though. We are partnering with Blue Copper Coffee and The Baking Hive to serve delights from our favorite local friends! The Legendarium will be a space where people can stay long — whether in a cozy chair with a book and steaming mug, at a table with friends and a lengthy role-play campaign, or simply working away the afternoon with a specialty sipping chocolate.
