Who Are We?

My name’s Craig Thorpe and I run Green Witch Films, a Leeds-based independent film production company that has, over the last few years, made several self-funded short films (up to £1k). One of our last shorts, The Dentist’s Tale, won multiple awards during its festival run in 2023.

We’re embarking on expanding our projects into longer-form, and our psychological rom-com horror, Trying Not To Kill Each Other (TNTKEO) is our first step to doing that. We’ve been slowly building our team and resources over the years but we’re still missing one vital element of the production process. Money.

After having already put some of my own money into covering pre-production costs, this amount has exceeded the budgets of all our previous shorts combined.. This is why we need your financial help.

What Are You Funding?

This is our first project since our award-winning short film, The Dentist’s Tale, finished its festival run and we’re hoping to build on the back of the success of our dark comedy/satire with another comedy.

TNTKEO is essentially The Shining, but rom-com. It’s a satire on modern day dating and relationships as it focuses on the impact lockdowns had on social anxiety as well as how social media and technology influences relationships and the way we interact with one another. We also delve into the themes of toxic masculinity, double standards and gender stereotypes by taking traditional rom-com tropes and clichés and spinning them for comedic effect. The normalisation and reality of domestic abuse play a key role in how these characters interact and develop over the course of the film. It highlights the responsibility men have when it comes to their behaviour and expectations of women and dealing with their issues as opposed to running away or not taking responsibility for their actions.

We already have a fantastic cast and crew attached to the project, but we need funding to secure the locations, accommodation and catering, so this team can deliver a film of the highest quality.

Risks & Challenges

We will always try to make sure our productions are delivered on schedule and on budget. However, sometimes, this isn’t always possible. There will always be elements or factors that will be out of our control when it comes to the efficiency of a production. This is why we have learned lessons from our no budget shorts, so we can ensure productions with financial contributions are taken with the utmost care and attention.
