Make The Ultimate Road Trek…
TO BOLDLY GO is not just a documentary… it’s a voyage of discovery (no, not THAT Discovery), a time machine that takes viewers back to the making of some of the most iconic TV episodes of all-time as only the Treksperts can. The hosts of the hit podcast along with a bevy of Trek stars will share their unique insights and deep knowledge about the making of these classic episodes as well as personal recollections and anecdotes about the production (and watching) these legendary episodes as they travel from location to location on a fun-filled journey across Southern California and beyond — and you’ll literally be on the bus, er, starship with them.
It’s A Whole Universe Of #Trekucation…
You might even be surprised by some of the SPECIAL SURPRISE GUESTS that show up with the Treksperts too who’ll discuss their own personal experiences filming these spectacular episodes, movies and locations as well.
Made by fans for fans, TO BOLDLY GO will be a celebration of all things Trek and the filming locations in the 20th and 21st centuries that helped bring the 23rd and 24th centuries to life.
This Is Your Big Chance To Get Away From It All…
While not quite HUNTER THOMPSON, this will be a gonzo documentary as we follow the Treksperts on their wild and wacky, fun-filled, Curb Your Enthusiasm-like journey to visit the many legendary locations that stood in for the future from the former 40 ACRES BACKLOT in Culver City to VASQUEZ ROCKS to BRONSON CANYON to BELL RANCH (not the site of the Bell Riots, however) to GOLDEN GATE PARK and many, many others as they go on their quest to find the “nuclear wessels” in Alameda.
From the moment they christen their travel van THE ENTERPRISE with a bottle of Dom Perignon and set off on the ultimate road trip to visit a succession of legendary Trek filming locations, you’ll be part of the journey.
What If They Went Somewhere?
Well, truth be told, we are going somewhere. A few of the many locations we may be visiting over the course of our long, strange trek will be:
· The former 40 ACRES CULVER CITY where the original Trek pilots filmed as well as “Errand of Mercy,” “Return of the Archons” and “City on the Edge of Forever.” Now AMAZON STUDIOS, Terry and the Treksperts will try and revisit the past in our own Guardian of Forever with lost footage, all-new interviews and behind-the-scenes photos. Or, at least, the Shake Shack that’s still there where Desi & Lucy Arnaz’s amazing studio once stood.
· AFRICA USA RANCH no longer exists but we’ll return to where “Shore Leave” was filmed and see if we can find any white rabbits lurking in the past….
· DISNEY GOLDEN OAK RANCH, once the site of the spores in “This Side Of Paradise…”
· We’ll put our inner eyelids to the test at “Operation: Annihilate’s” TRW SPACE & DEFENSE PARK…
· And, of course, what trip back to the future would be complete without a visit to the most iconic of all sci-fi locations, VASQUEZ ROCKS where “Arena,” “Darmok” and “Who Watches The Watchers” once filmed? The less said about “The Alternative Factor,” the better.
· On our way to the Batcave we may even find out where the walls fell in “Darmok” and the sun of god was not up in the sky in “Bread & Circuses” at BRONSON CANYON.
· We’ll bring galactic peace to the galaxy at the BRANDEIS-BARDIN INSTITUTE where STAR TREK VI once filmed as well as visit Spock’s not so-final-resting place in GOLDEN GATE PARK.
· We’ll sample some vintage Chateau Picard at the CALLAWAY VINEYARD & WINERY in Temecula from “All Good Things”
· Matriculate at Starfleet Academy at the DONALD TILLMAN WATER RECLAMATION PLANT… after we’re done cavorting with the Edo.
· We’ll drink some good tea at a nice house in MALIBU from “The Survivors…”
· Test our quick draw abilities against “A Fistful Of Datas” at UNIVERSAL STUDIOS WESTERN TOWN…
· Search for Marc Twain (and Data’s head) at PICO HOUSE…
· Go back to the beach with “Emissary” at LEO CARILLO STATE BEACH…
· Go in search of the Jem’hadar at “Rocks & Shoals” SUN VALLEY ROCK QUARRY…
· Play ball at “Take Me Out To The Holosuite’s” LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY…
· Play banjo with the Caretaker at the Voyager pilot’s EL MIRAGE DRY LAKE BED while visiting Ocampa city at the LOS ANGELES CONVENTION CENTER.
· Make a trip to “Carbon Creek” along CALIFORNIA STATE ROUTE 138…
– Find out what God needs with a Starship at TRONA PINNACLES and the OWEN DRY LAKE BED…
· And search for time-travelling aliens from the future at LACEY STREET STUDIOS on “Carpenter Street.”
· And, of course, no documentary on great Trek locations would be complete if we did not climb the steps of MOUNT SELEYA at OCCIDENTAL COLLEGE or swam with whales at the CETACEAN INSTITUTE at MONTEREY BAY AQUARIUM or visited Kirk’s final resting place (?) in Nevada’s VALLEY OF FIRE.
These are ONLY A FEW OF THE MANY LOCATIONS the Treksperts will boldly go to on their journey to the locations that gave birth to some of the greatest Star Trek adventures of all-time with the creators who made them!
THE GOOD OF THE MANY…
The primary goal of this campaign is to produce a full-length, high quality, captivating theatrical feature documentary film that honors and explores the history of creating Star Trek movies and episodes on the series’ greatest locations just in time for the franchise’s epic 60th anniversary.
In addition to exhaustive one-on-one conversations with the biggest names in Trek — TO BOLDLY GO will be filled with anecdotes and deep dives into classic episodes as they were being made from critics, stars, super fans and a generation of filmmakers who were inspired by these episodes and movies.
As a supporter of the campaign you’ll be ensuring that these important locations are preserved for posterity and celebrated with a combination of clips, animated recreations, maps, rare behind-the-scenes photos, and in-depth conversations that comprise the most complete history of a genre that has made such a huge impact with stories that have transcended the generations. But this isn’t homework, most of all, TO BOLDLY GO will be FUN!!!
How the Funds Will Be Used: MAKING THE TREK!
This project represents the realization of a dream by the filmmakers to honor the AMAZING FILMING LOCATIONS that immortalized the future for Trek’s sixtieth anniversary. To make it so, we’re turning to the Kickstarter community to help fund the personnel, technology, and equipment used in the creation of this documentary.
The great news is that we’re not starting from scratch! We have already invested a lot, both financially and emotionally as well as extensive research, into the production of the film and have been covering these stories and more for over five years on our hit podcast, Inglorious Treksperts. And everyone involved is a successful Hollywood creator from showrunners to concept designers to visual effects artists to directors and producers.
While the producers are funding much of production out of their own pockets, additional funding is required to pay for travel for crew people and equipment across the globe to conduct additional interviews and pay some of the behind-the-scenes crew that will be working on the film in hair and make-up, location fees, production legal, clearances, accounting (boring we know, but necessary), etc. Without these funds it would be impossible to complete production and release the film in time for Star Trek’s 60th anniversary (or technically, the filming of “The Cage” which took place in December 1964).
After the unavoidable crowdfunding fees and taxes, our fans then get their rewards (and profound gratitude from the filmmakers!) for their help in making the film a reality! Then, the entirety of the rest of the funds raised will go straight into the acquisition of additional clips, filming even more interviews around the world and creating companion merchandise like a coffee table book and toys and merchandise!
It’s as simple as that.
But the most important thing your contribution ensures is that the film will get made! Check out our IMDB’s. Everyone involved has been part of many successful film and TV ventures. If you are part of this campaign you will indeed be assured that this project WILL come to fruition… and be informative, engaging and awesome!! We’ve already raised a percentage of the budget allowing us to begin pre-production, but we need your help to raise the rest of our production budget to complete filming and post-production.

Why Use IndieGoGo?
We don’t want to see this film made by others who aren’t genuine fans making cheesy jokes like “We just beamed in and are so energized” or who seem like they’re reading facts and figures off a Wikipedia (or Memory Alpha) page. We want to share our genuine love and passion for this material as fans who live, breathe and eat Star Trek and to do this right without network or studio interference or notes. This is the only way we can make the film the way it should be done. You do prefer it this way, don’t you? Warrior to Warrior. That’s why we’re coming to you to ask for your help to make this happen the way it was meant to be…
Risks and challenges
Although the producers have provided initial seed funding for the project and raised initial funds, there are several important elements to this opportunity that represent risks and challenges to a successful completion. We have fulfilled campaigns in the past and are well versed in manufacturing and shipping of physical and digital rewards. While we don’t foresee delays there is always the risk that there could be unexpected delays in production, finishing funds and/or manufacturing and shipping beyond our control.
