Story

What was once debated is now undeniable. The planet is changing.

Places we once called home will soon be unlivable. The question is, can we reverse it? Many solutions have been proposed. But could the answer be far more simple than we thought?

For millions of years, trees and humans have coexisted in a symbiotic dance.

We’ve lived alongside them, found shelter under their branches, eaten their fruit, warmed ourselves from their fallen remains. In exchange, trees take only the life-sustaining carbon dioxide that we exhale. We give one another life.

But somehow we’ve forgotten.

What many call progress has come at a cost. Is there hope for the future?

The world is awakening to a new way forward.

Trees have emerged as a promising way out of this climate crisis. But we need to plant 1.2 trillion new trees by the year 2030.

These trees will suck up nearly 830 billion tons of heat-trapping carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. That’s about how much carbon pollution we as humans have spewed in the past 25 years. But we have to do it together.

We’re gathering people from around the world to co-create a documentary that is too sacred to be told by one filmmaker alone. THE TREES MOVIE is a love letter to the silent giants that control our fate. A global collaboration that shows what trees mean to you—to your life, to your community, and to the world we share.

No matter who or where you are, we all have something at stake.

Whether you’re a seasoned filmmaker or a novice with a smartphone and a story, you are invited to grab your camera and join us in telling the timeless tale of trees.

If selected, your story will be woven together with the stories of hundreds of fellow filmmakers from around the globe by a world-class production team.

THE TREES MOVIE is our story. As a species. As a planet.

Only by coming together can this film be made.

Only by coming together can we remember.

Just as we’re crowdsourcing film footage from around the world, we’re counting on the support of like-minded donors from near and far to help us produce THE TREES MOVIE.

Creating independent films without the support of the studios or mainstream media is challenging and expensive. We’re up to the task. We know the importance of championing the stories that may otherwise go untold. We believe films such as this must be created with utmost integrity and respect. This means without the outside influence of studio heads, network executives, or advertisers. This is where you come in.

No contribution is too small. Every amount helps.

Nick Polizzi (Director) has been making documentary films for much of the past two decades. The titles he has produced include The Sacred Science, Remedy: Ancient Medicines for Modern Illness, Proven: Healing Breakthroughs Backed By ScienceTrauma: Healing Your Past To Find Freedom Now, Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days, and The Tapping Solution. Nick is the founder of the natural healing publication known as The Sacred Science and co-founder of WholeTV, a video streaming platform for those passionate about health and wellness. He is also the author of Amazon Bestselling book, The Sacred Science: An Ancient Healing Path For The Modern World. Nick’s work is guided by a fascination with the ancient remedies of civilizations around the world and how they can be used to heal the diseases of today. He is driven by a calling to honor, preserve, and protect the ancient knowledge and rituals of our ancestors.

Shannon Kring (Producer) is an Emmy-winning director/producer and humanitarian who serves as a voice for the world’s forbidden and forgotten. Her work has been presented by dozens of governments, and by institutions including the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, the Smithsonian Institution Museum of the American Indian, NASA, and MIT. Shannon works with the UN, US Department of State, USAID, UNEP, and other global bodies concerning the indigenous and other marginalized members of society, environmental sustainability, animal welfare, human rights, and cultural preservation. She is a UNWTO Liaison and serves as Honduras’ Goodwill Ambassador. After living in places as diverse as Helsinki and San Pedro Sula, Honduras (then the Murder Capital of the World), Shannon returned to the US in 2016 to begin production on End of the Line: The Women of Standing Rock. In 2018, she became the first US director and third woman to receive the backing of the Finnish Film Foundation. In 2019 she won the Stella Artois-Women in Film Finishing Fund Award.

Emily Martin McLaughlin (Production Manager) is a nature lover and environmental anthropology enthusiast. After completing a BA in International Environmental Studies, she received a Master’s degree in Indigenous Studies, studying how indigenous communities’ relationships with local ecosystems can influence culture, identity and wellbeing.  She learned first-hand about the interconnectedness of humans with the natural world — how each human action has an environmental impact and vice versa. Emily went on to work with The Sacred Science production company to coordinate partnerships for two docuseries, Remedy and Proven. She now steps into behind-the-scenes production for the Trees Movie to inspire the masses to reconnect with the natural world around them and ignite boots-on-the-ground activism to save our planet.
